Brave budgie, Tara! / タラは勇敢？！

It wasn't so hot today due to Typhoon Jongdari, but I put the new pool for Ikura and Tara.
Well, I was quite surprised because it was Tara who tried it first out of curiosity in the end!
Tara wasn't into bathing and he rather avoided it when I took both of Ikura and Tara to the sink.
He looked so happy and I'm sure he did enjoy bathing alone!
As for Ikura, he wasn't brave enough to jump in... perhaps he needs a bit more time to get used to this new pool.
Oh, speaking of Ikura, he is moulting now and lost two long tail feathers yesterday. He looks a bit miserable now, so I really hope the moulting period will be gone quickly.

今日は台風12号の接近で猛暑からは免れましたが、今後の進路や被害がとても心配です。
猛暑日ではないものの、我が家は例のプール（「お水の知育」という子ども向けのおもちゃです）を準備し、イクラとタラを呼びました。
なんと最初にドボンとプールで遊んでくれたのは、タラでした。正直タラは水浴びに興味がないと思っていたので、この結果にちょっとびっくりです。
イクラはといえば、恐る恐る近づくだけで、結局逃げて行きました…。このプールに慣れるには、もう少し時間がかかりそうですね。
そんなイクラですが、ただいま絶賛換羽中で、昨日長い尾羽が２本も抜けたところです。顔もどことなくお疲れ気味に見えるので、1日もはやく換羽が終わってくれることを祈るばかりです。

Boiling hot days... / 続く猛暑日

In Tokyo we suffer from boiling hot days... everyday it's 35C or over in the daytime and even in my room, now it is over 33C.
I'm already looking forward to comfortable autumn.
As for Ikura and Tara, they're doing well so far. Ikura lost 1g now, so he only needs to lose 1 or 2g to reach the ideal weight. He just started moulting again, so I'll keep an eye on him.
Tara is very active and he was the one who tried a new pool! He lost two clipped feathers, so I'm sure he will be able to fly very well once he has got new ones.

 東京は猛暑日が続いています。日中の気温はおそらく35度以上になっているのではないでしょうか。私の部屋も、ただいまの気温、33度超えです…。
まだ８月にもなっていませんが、すでに秋が恋しい今日この頃。
イクラとタラはこの暑さの中、元気にしています。
イクラはようやく１ｇ減で、あと１ｇか２ｇ減量できれば理想の体重ですね。ちょうど換羽も始まったようなので、しっかり体調管理していきたいと思います。
タラは元気に動き回っていて、新しいプールにトライしようとしたのもタラです。クリッピングされた風切羽根が２枚抜けたので、新しいものが生えてくれば、上手に飛べるようになりますね。

How to lose weight? / ダイエットするには…

It's not easy for me to lose weight and apparently I can say the same for Ikura.
I'm very careful with his meal now, but so far his weight is stable.
Well, have you heard of "foraging toys"? I put one in Ikura's cage. It's suppose to let him work harder for his treat, but Ikura must be smart. It doesn't take time to reach what he wants...
As for Tara, he is doing well and these days he is getting more adventurous.
And he always tries to take away everything from Ikura. Tara wants the same thing what Ikura has got, I suppose.
We are suffering from the heating weather here and I really hope both Ikura and Tara are fine and can welcome nice autumn soon...

私もなかなか体重が落ちずに苦労していますが、我が家のイクラも同じ問題を抱えています。
イクラの食事にはかなり気を遣っていますが、今のところ体重は横ばいです。
「フォージングトイ」をご存知ですか？
ごはん探しに時間を費やしてもらってストレス軽減やダイエット効果を期待できるものです。
イクラのケージにくるくる回転するもの（うまく回転させると穴からごはんが出てきます）を設置したのですが…。すぐにコツを覚えてしまって、結局数分でごはんを食べきってしまいます（笑）。
一方タラはいくら食べても太りません。今のところ元気にわんぱく坊主ぶりを発揮してくれています。きっと太らないのは、活動量が多いせいでしょうか。
タラはなんでもイクラから奪おうとするジャイアンぶり。きっとイクラと同じものが欲しいのでしょうかね。
連日続く猛暑日に、日中室内で過ごすイクラとタラが心配になりますが、元気に夏を乗り越えて、秋を迎えてほしいです（もうすでに秋が待ち遠しいです…）。

Ikura visited the vet. / イクラの診察。

I took Ikura to the vet this Thursday.
Although he looks fine, eats a lot, and play well, I worry about his sloppy poo condition.
And there is a green colour feather I found!
Anyway, the vet says he is alright and that green colour feather is not a sign of any illness. All he has to do is lose a bit weight.
This morning I let him enjoy bathing (I had to stop him doing for a while in order to check his drinking amount), and he looked so happy.
Unfortunately he still keeps sloppy poo, but I'll keep an eye on him.
Tara is doing well, and I envy him so much. He eats a lot, but never gets chubby!

木曜日にイクラを病院へ連れていきました。多尿に気になる緑色の羽根。結果は治療が必要なものではなく、様子見でＯＫとのこと。やるべきことは、体重を少し減らすこと、でした。
緑色の羽根はメラニン沈着によるもので、病気によるものではないそうです。
ただ、頭に黒い羽根が生えてきたら肝臓が悪いサインかもしれないので注意してほしいとのことでした（※イクラの模様の場合であって、すべてのセキセイインコさんに当てはまるわけではありません）。
飲水量チェックのためしばらく水浴びできなかったイクラ、今朝は思いっきり水浴びを楽しんでいました。こんなにはしゃいでいる姿を見るのは初めてだと思います。
ダイエットでごはんの量も少なく、水を飲むことも多いせいか、相変わらず多尿は続いているので、注意して見守っていきたいと思います。
タラはとても元気で、いくら食べても太らないタラは、私とイクラの羨望のまとですね。

Splash! / 水あそび

I can't believe that the rainy season was already gone in Tokyo. Well, these days we are suffering from high humidity and a boiling weather.
I guess this is why Tara started bathing? Not really... he only does it when Ikura does bathing. Tara just wants to copy whatever Ikura does, I suppose.
Speaking of Ikura, he keeps having sloppy droppings, so I've decided to check how much he drinks everyday. If the amount is normal, this is just because his moulting period is not finished yet. If he drinks water too much, it may be the sign that his kidney is something wrong, so I must take him to the vet.
Hmm... I always wanted him to enjoy his meal so I chose to give him seeds and grasses mainly, but I changed my mind. His main meal will be pellets now. So see how it will go.

関東はすでに梅雨明けですね。あっという間の梅雨明けにびっくりすると共に、このうだるような暑さにすでに夏バテになりそうです。
その暑さから逃げるために、とうとうタラも水浴びデビュー？！かと思ったら、タラはイクラのマネがしたかっただけのようです。
イクラが水浴びしている時しかタラも水浴びしないので（笑）。
イクラといえば、ここ最近ずっと多尿なんです。換羽中、暑いときなど生理的理由で多尿になることもあるようですが、腎臓などの病気で多尿になることも。そこで今日から飲水量をチェックすることにしました。飲水量が正常であれば（体重の10～20パーセント）、生理的な理由だと思いますが、それを超えた場合には、病院で診てもらおうと思います。
そして、今までなるべく自然のものを、食事を楽しんでもらうという理由からシードメインの食事にしていましたが、不本意ながらペレットメインに切り替えてみようと思います。これで改善が見られればいいのですが。
