Kotori Cafe / ことりカフェ

Have you ever heard of "Kotori Cafe"? "Kotori" means little birds in Japanese and "Kotori Cafe" is where we can see lovely birds over a cup of tea. There are some such cafes in Tokyo and yesterday I visited one of them for the first time. Okay, it was just amazing and I loved it. There are so many Cockatiels in the cafe and they are so cute! When I was a kid, I wanted to have a Cockatiel, but never had it.
It's very relaxing to listen to the birds singing, isn't it?
By the way, I'm taking a one night trip and need to leave Namihei at home. My mum will look after her, but she can't let Namihei out. I'm coming back on Sunday evening, so it won't be long. Yet, I already miss her so much!

ことりカフェ、ご存知ですか？かわいいインコちゃんたちを眺めながらお茶できる、インコ好きにはたまらないカフェです。
東京にはいくつかありますが、昨日はそのうちの１つを、初めて訪れてみました。とってもステキですぐに気に入ってしまいました！オカメインコがたくさんいて、どの子も本当にキュート。小さい頃、オカメインコを飼いたかったのですが、オカメとリクエストして、父が買ってきたのはなぜかコザクラインコでした（笑）。
小鳥のさえずりを聞くって、とってもリラックスできますよね。
ところで、私はこれから１泊旅行に出かけるのですが、波平はお留守番です。母が面倒を見てくれますが、放鳥はできません。日曜日の夜には帰ってくるので、そんなに長い時間ではありませんが、すでに私はなみちゃんを恋しく思っています！

I'm coming with you. / 一緒にいくよ。

Last night I came back late from work and Namihei was waiting for me. Yes, I'm sure she wanted to play out of her cage! So when she heard I opened the entrance door, she kept calling me from the living room.
Well, she usually likes playing alone and doesn't care what I do or where I am.
Last night she must have missed me a lot. After I let her out, she followed me! When she follows me, she comes with me even to the loo... We didn't have much time to play together, but she must have been satisfied. She went back to her cage when it was time to go to bed. I was so exhausted with work, but her loveliness made me feel so happy. Namihei is my angel, I suppose!

昨晩はまた仕事で帰宅が遅くなったのですが、波平は私のことを待っていました。きっとはやく外で遊びたかったんでしょうね。玄関を開ける音が聞こえたなみちゃん、リビングから大歓迎の呼び鳴きが続いていました。
なみちゃんはひとり遊びが基本的には好きで、私がどこで何をしていようがあまり気にしていません。でも、昨日は寂しかったんでしょうね。ケージから出ると、ずっとくっついてくるんですよ。こういうときは、トイレにまでついてきますからね（笑）。一緒に遊ぶ時間はそんなにありませんでしたが、ちゃんと満足したようで、寝る時間がくると、すっとケージに戻ってくれました。仕事でものすごーく疲れていたのですが、このなみちゃんの愛くるしさで幸せな気分に浸れましたよ。なみちゃんは、やっぱり私の天使です！

It's not time to go back yet. / まだ帰る時間じゃない。

These days I'm struggling to let Namihei go back to her cage in the morning. She doesn't want to go back and always escapes from me when I try to let her inside the cage. So now I have to use the old method. First of all, prepare a clothes hanger and turn off the light. Then catch her with the hanger and lead her to the cage. Well, this is a gamble though. Sometimes Namihei tries to escapes and gets panicked in the dark. In this case, I have to turn on the light immediately, otherwise she may hit herself against the wall.
At night she usually goes back without problems when the time comes. Perhaps she is sleepy enough? I need to think of the best way to have her go home in the morning too!

 このところ、朝の放鳥後、波平をケージに戻すのに苦労しています。戻りたくないようで、私が戻すそぶりを見せるといつも逃げていきます。そんなわけで、またかつての方法が復活です。まずハンガーを用意して、それから部屋の電気を消し、ハンガーでなみちゃんを捕獲して、そのままケージまで導いていく、という方法なのですが、リスクが高いことも事実です。たまになみちゃんが逃げようとして、暗闇でパニックを起こすことがあるんです。こんなときは、すぐに電気をつけてあげないと、壁にぶつかったりしてしまいますからね。
夜であれば、問題なく寝る時間がくると素直にケージに戻っていくんですけど。たぶん、眠くなるんでしょうか。朝もちゃんとケージに戻ってもらえるよう、ベストな方法を考えないといけませんね。

Namihei can tell what she wants. / 欲しいものは伝えます。

Budgies are very cleaver and they can show their feelings too.
Namihei is also pretty cleaver and it seems that she can tell what she wants.
When she wants to have a bath, she shakes her special bath and let me know it's time to have a bath. Actually she did enjoy bathing when I prepared!
On the other hand, she doesn't bathe even if I prepare the bath, when she doesn't shake the bath. It's very interesting.
As for seeds, she will start steal them before telling me what she wants to eat though. So far, she can tell me only about bathing!

インコはとっても賢くて、感情も表すことができる生き物です。
波平だって、結構賢いんですよ。たとえば、何が欲しいのか伝えることができるんです。
水浴びしたい時は、なみちゃん専用のバスを揺らして訴えてきます。実際お風呂に水を入れて用意すると、楽しそうに水浴びを始めたんです！
でも、この揺らしがない場合は、お風呂を準備しても、水浴びはしません。とっても興味深いですよね。
食べ物に関しては、何が食べたいか訴える前に、すでに盗み食いが始まっています。そんなわけで、今はまだ水浴びがしたいことだけ伝えられるようです。

Greediness / 食い意地

I always admire Namihei's greediness. Of course, it's far better to have an appetite when we are sick though.
I usually prepare her seeds when she is in her cage, because she dashes to me and tries to steal some.
There is a big bottle in which I keep her main seeds. Since the bottle wasn't full and I didn't think Namihei would reach the seeds inside, I opened the bottle when she was around. Well, there she was, she came to the bottle and tried to reach the seeds inside. Then she fell in the bottle! She didn't look panicked and actually she was eating the seeds inside for a while. Her greediness, I don't know what to say, but somehow she isn't an ordinary budgie, is she?

波平の食欲にはいつも感心させられます。もちろん、病気になった時には食欲があったほうが断然いいのですが。
私がなみちゃんの食事を用意するのは、だいたいなみちゃんがケージにいる時です。そうじゃないと、ダッシュで近づいてきて、盗み食いされますからね。
メインのシードを保管している大きな瓶があるのですが、シードも少なくなっているし、まさか食べられないだろうと思って、なみちゃんがそばにいる時に開けたんです。すると、やっぱり近寄ってきて、盗み食いを始めようとしたんです。そうしたら、なんとなみちゃんがすっぽり中に入ってしまったんです！じつは、パニックになるどころか、そのまま中に入ってシードをしばらく食べ続けていたなみちゃん。この食い意地には、本当に驚かされます。まあ、ある意味、フツーのインコじゃないですよね、なみちゃん。

Spread! / ばらまき。

I always wanted to make something with Namihei's feathers, because they're so beautiful. Finally I made this necklace! Since her feather is beautiful yellow, I think it's ideal to make accessories. Hmm... I'll make another one soon!
By the way, these days her bad habit came back. She spreads her seeds when she is in a bad mood. Okay, I can clean up again and again, but what I worry about is I often find her seed box empty. I can't refill it until I come back home. I wonder if she is starving during the day. I hope she will quit this bad habit soon so that I don't need to worry about her a lot!

 波平の羽で何か作りたいと思っていました。だって、なみちゃんの羽、とってもきれいですからね。そしてついに、このガラスドームのネックレスを作りました！黄色って、アクセサリーにはいい色ですよね。もう１つ、作ろうかと思ってます。
ところで、最近またなみちゃんの悪いクセが戻ってきてしまったんです。機嫌が悪いと、エサ箱のシードをばらまくというものです。もちろん、私はいくらでも掃除しますけど、心配なのが、よくエサ箱がすっからかんになっていること。家に戻るまで、当然私は足してあげることができません。日中お腹をすかせているのかと思うと心配です。だから、この悪いクセはどうか早く直してほしいです。これ以上、なみちゃんの心配をしたくないですからね！

No! / やだ！

When I leave home, I always talk to Namihei with waving my house key. I want her to learn this is the sign that I'm leaving. She sometimes responds with moving from end to end on the perch, which, I suppose, means "Oh, don't go, don't leave me alone". And she sometimes just ignores me!
Last night I had a welcome party for one of my colleagues, so I came back late. I told her about it when I left home. Well, she showed a new response! When I told her I wouldn't be able to play with her at night, she made a strange noise. I'm sure she did understand what I had meant, because I told her three times and she made the same noise every time. Erm... I'll try to spend more time with her today, but I have to leave her alone tomorrow night again. Sorry, Namihei!

家を出る時は、いつも波平に家の鍵を振りながら話しかけます。なみちゃんに、私が出かける相図を覚えてほしくて、これを習慣にしています。この相図に、まるで「行かないで、ひとりにしないで」と言わんばかりに、止まり木の上を行ったり来たり左右に動くこともあれば、完全無視を食らうこともあります。
昨日は、職場での歓迎会参加のため、帰宅が遅くなること、なみちゃんとは遊べないことを伝えたんです。そうしたら、新しい反応がありました。「ギャッ」というような、拒否反応のような鳴き方をされたんです！これ、絶対私が言ったことを理解したんだと思うんです。３回同じことを伝えて、３回とも同じ反応をされたので。
今日はなるべく一緒にいるようにするけれど、明日も夜は出かけなくちゃいけないので、またお留守番。なみちゃん、先に謝っておきます。ごめんね！

It's easy to get tired now! / 疲れやすい。

These days I get tired so easily and perhaps it means I'm getting old. As for Namihei, she looks a bit tired now, because of the moulting period. When she is out of her cage in the evening, she ends up dozing off. Well, she should go back to her cage if she wants to rest, but it seems that she wants to take a nap outside. Does she feel better and more comfortable outside?
Of course, she will get excited when she notices I'm preparing some seeds for her. she looks super energetic and will dashes to me right away!
By the way, she gets so angry easily now and often bites my hands without reasons. Poor me!

このところ、疲れやすいんですよね。たぶん、歳をとった証拠です。波平もお疲れモードなのですが、こちらは換羽のせいです。夜の放鳥時は、結局最後にはどこかでうとうとしている始末。だったらケージに戻ればいいのにと思うのですが、外の方が気持ちがいいんですかね、外でゆっくり休みたいようです。
もちろん、私がおやつのシードを用意していることに勘付けば、急に元気モード全開です。エンジン全開でどこからでも駆けつけてきますからね、なみちゃん。
ところで、どうも最近、なみちゃんは怒りっぽいんです。何の理由もなく、よく私の手を噛むんですよ。飼い主、結構かわいそうです…。

Moulting period, again / 換羽ふたたび。

I thought Namihei would finish the moulting period soon, but I was wrong! It came back again... I noticed that she had dropped some feathers a couple of days ago. And then last night I found a pretty big one. If I remember correctly, same thing happened previously. Are there two rounds, the first half and the second half in moulting period?
I have to clean up around her cage so often for a while. Okay, I can do it, but I worry about Namihei. She must consume a lot of energy during the moulting period, so it can be easy to get sick. I really hope she will finish the moulting period soon!

波平はもうすぐ換羽を終えると思っていたのですが、どうやら間違っていたみたいです。また始まったんですよ。数日前にまた羽が抜けていることに気づいたんですよね。昨晩なんて、大きな羽が床に落ちてましたから。記憶が間違っていなければ、前も換羽が２回に分けてあった気がするんですよね。換羽には、パート１とパート２の２段階があるんでしょうか？！
またしばらく、なみちゃんのケージ周りを一生懸命掃除しなければなりません。それは良しとして、やはりなみちゃんのことが心配です。換羽中は体力をたくさん消耗するので、病気にもかかりやすいんです。はやく換羽が終わってほしいですね、なみちゃん！

Talking with a sparrow / すずめとおしゃべり

Yesterday I took a day off and spent all day at home. I'm sure Namihei enjoyed the day, as she was able to stay outside of her cage a lot.
In the morning I let her enjoy some sun in the garden. There is a persimmon tree in the garden and I saw a sparrow there and Namihei was talking to the sparrow. Well, I'm always wondering if there is a common language among birds. I also want to know what exactly they were talking about! I hope Namihei was saying that she was happy with me though.
After that, I mostly let her out of her cage and she did enjoy the day, I suppose. Because she didn't argue with me when it was time to go to bed!

昨日は有給休暇をとって、１日中家にいました。波平も１日楽しんだはずです。だって、ほとんどケージの外で過ごせた１日ですからね。
朝は庭で日光浴です。庭には柿の木があるのですが、そこにすずめが１羽いたのですが、どうやらなみちゃんは、このすずめちゃんとおしゃべりしているようなんです。いつも疑問に思うのが、鳥たちの中で、何か共通語のようなものが存在するのかどうか、ということ。そして、このふたりが何をしゃべっていたのかも気になります。なみちゃん、ここで暮らせて幸せだよ～とか言ってくれたらうれしいのですが。
日光浴のあとは、ほとんどケージの外で自由時間を楽しんだなみちゃん。満足だったに違いありません。だって、寝る時間になったら自らケージに戻って行きましたからね。

I don't want to go home yet! / まだ帰りたくない！

It seems that Namihei finished her mating season, because her cere is now white. It had been brown for several months. I think her moulting period will finish soon. So she is quite energetic now. For a while she was a good girl and voluntarily got back to her cage after playing in my room.
But now she doesn't want to go back to her cage and when I try to let her back, she flees! Sometimes I have to use a clothes hanger to reach her on the top of the cupboard in my room. Of course, I'm very happy to see her energetic, but I want her to learn when she has to go home. Isn't her cage attractive enough?! Shall I put new toys inside?!

波平の発情期が終わったようで、昨年から数カ月にわたり茶色だったろうまくが、白くなりました。換羽もそろそろ終わりを迎えています。だから、なみちゃんはやけに元気いっぱいなんですよね。しばらくは、良い子ちゃんで、部屋でちょっと遊んだあとは、自らケージに戻っていました。
ところが、今は戻りたがらないんです。戻そうとすると、逃げていくので、私はクローゼットの上にいったなみちゃんを、ハンガーを使っておびき寄せているんですよ。もちろん、元気いっぱいのなみちゃんを見るのはとてもうれしいことです。ですが、お家に変える時間というのは、学んでほしいですね。ケージって、そんなに魅力的じゃないんでしょうか？新しいおもちゃでも入れてあげればいいんでしょうかね。

Staying at home with Namihei / 波平とお留守番

Since Namihei has to be at home alone while I go to work on weekdays, I try to spend lots of time with her on weekends. So if I go out on Saturday, I try to stay at home on Sunday.
Well, I don't think she appreciates my effort though. She doesn't look excited at all even I'm next to her! When I let her out of her cage, she flies to fer favourite places in my room. I want to play with her together though!
I also want to take photos of her. When I come over with my camera, can you guess what she does?! She just flies away... Erm... does it mean I should pay her for modelling? I've got an assignment in photography class. I need to take nice shots of her with a micro-lens. So Namihei, please be nice to me!

平日、私が仕事でいない間、波平はお家でひとりお留守番。だから、週末はなるべく一緒に過ごすようにしています。土曜日に出かけたら、日曜日はなるべく家にいる、といった具合です。ま、なみちゃんが私のこの努力に何とも思っていないのはわかっています。だって、隣にいたって別にウキウキしているわけじゃないし、放鳥すれば、一目散に自分のお気に入りスポットへ飛び立っていきますからね。私は一緒に遊びたいんですけど！
それから、写真も撮りたくて、なみちゃんのところにカメラを持って行くと、どうすると思いますか？飛び去っていきます…。もしかして、モデル料を払わないとダメなんでしょうか？！写真教室の次回の課題は、マクロレンズを使った接写です。なみちゃん、良い子にして、写真を撮らせておくれ～！

Can't wait! / 待てない。

Namihei is so lovely and I always like her, of course. But... she doesn't listen to me and always wants to do whatever she wants. Somehow she can read my mind and does what I don't want her to do! Cheeky, Namihei!
Well, when I prepare her meal, she can't wait. She tries to steal some from my hands. When I clean up her cage, she comes to me and tries to bother me. When I go to the loo, she sometimes follows me (she can't wait!).
Actually, I also can't wait to see her getting back beautiful feathers.While she has moulting period, I have to clean up my room a lot. Where she grooms herself, I always find white powders. Yes, they came from her body, of course!

私はとってもかわいい波平が大好きです。でも、なみちゃんは私の言うことは聞かないし、やりたい放題なんですけど。なんとなく、なみちゃんは私の心が読める気がするんです。だから、やってほしくないことをわざとやるんですよ。ある意味すごいです！
なみちゃんのごはんを用意していると、待てないなみちゃんは、さっそく私の手からシードを盗んでいくわけです。ケージを掃除していれば、近づいてきて、邪魔し始める。私がトイレに行けば、たまについてきちゃう（部屋で待ってられないみたいです）。
私も、なみちゃんがキレイな羽を取り戻してくれるのを待ってるんですよ。換羽中は、部屋の掃除で大忙し。なみちゃんが羽繕いしたところには、きまって白い粉が大量に落ちています。これ、なみちゃんの脂粉ですよ！

Namihei loves bathing! / 波平は水浴びがお好き。

I usually let Namihei out in the morning and evening every day. Well, we haven't got enough time in the morning though. These days Namihei really loves bathing and she wants to have a bath in the morning too. Of course, I tell her "Namihei, later. You can have a bath in the evening after I come back from work", but she doesn't listen to me. I wish I could let her enjoy bathing in the morning. Then I want her to enjoy the sun if the weather is lovely. Hmm... I think I can do that on the weekend. According to the weather forecast, the weather will be nice this weekend, so yes, I'll let her enjoy the morning bathing!

波平の放鳥はだいたい朝と夜の２回。でも、朝はなかなか十分な時間がとれません。このところ、なみちゃんは水浴びが大好きで、朝も水浴びがしたいと要求してくるのですが、「なみちゃん、帰ってきたらね。夜、水浴びしようね」と、飼い主必死の説得。まあ、なみちゃんは私の懇願なんて聞いてませんけどね。もちろん、私だって、なみちゃんに朝風呂を楽しんでもらって、天気がよければその後日向ぼっこでもしてもらいたいですよ。たぶん、週末はなみちゃんの朝風呂の願いをかなえられると思います。天気予報では、今週末は晴れるみたいだし、なみちゃんに朝風呂でも楽しんでもらいますかね！

Be prepared for droppings! / フンにご注意！

I share my room with Namihei, so she can hang around anywhere in my room when she is out of her cage. This is why I have to be careful with my belongings. I need to hide the things I don't want her touch. I need to hide the things which are harmful to her as well.
Yesterday morning I was shocked when I picked up my yellow skirt. Well, her poo was stuck on it. Fortunately it was dry enough and I was able to remove it completely. Once she even dropped her poo on my head. I can't teach her where is her loo, so I always have to be careful, I suppose.
By the way, I wasn't able to play with her last night, as I came back late. When I came back, she was sleeping on the swing. Yes, she is on the swing only when she sleeps!

私の部屋は、波平と共有なので、放鳥時はなみちゃんは部屋の中ならどこでも好きなところをうろうろできます。だから、自分の持ち物には気をつけなければいけないんです。なみちゃんに触ってほしくないものは隠さなければいけないし、なみちゃんに害のあるものだって隠さなければいけないんですから。
昨日の朝、黄色のスカートをひっぱり出したとき、ショックを受けました。だって、なみちゃんのフンが付いてるんですもの！幸い、乾燥していたのできれいに取れました。なみちゃん、私の頭の上にフンをしたことだってあるんですよ。なみちゃんにトイレはここよ、と教えることはできないので、私自身が気をつけていくしかないんですよね。
ところで、昨晩は帰宅が遅くなったため、なみちゃんとは遊べませんでした。帰宅すると、なみちゃんはブランコの上でぐっすり眠ってました。そうなんです、眠るときだけ、なみちゃんはブランコに乗るんですよ！

Powerful Budgie, Namihei / パワフルなインコ、波平

When Namihei faces moulting period, I'm sure she is quite grumpy. Then she wants to take out on me without any particular reason. Poor me! When she is in a bad mood, she comes to me and starts biting my fingers. Namihei, it's not fair! These days she enjoys gnawing my desk calandar, so it looks so miserable now. How can I calm her down a little bit? She is a young rascal and unstoppable budgie. Well, of course, it's much better than seeing her sick though. By the way, she did bathing last night too! 換羽中の波平は、かなりご機嫌ななめ。だから、何の理由もなく、飼い主に八つ当たりしたりするわけです。かわいそうな飼い主…。機嫌が悪いと、近づいてきて、そのまま指をガブっとするんです。なみちゃん、これってずるくない？ここ数日、さらには卓上カレンダーをかじるのが大好きで、カレンダーがだんだんみずぼらしくなってきています。どうやったらなみちゃんを落ち着かせることができるんでしょうか。もちろん、病気のなみちゃんを見るよりはるかにマシなんですけど。ところで、昨晩も水浴びしていましたよ。なみちゃんの水浴び動画はこちらのリンクからどうぞ。インスタグラムにアクセスしなくてもご覧いただけますよ！

When Namihei changes her mind / 波平が心変わりするとき。

Namihei's moulting period is still ongoing. Now I see less dropped feathers in the floor. Instead, there are many new feathers on her face! This must annoy her a lot, as she is so busy with grooming herself.
Well, Namihei doesn't bathe often, but I felt she would need it somehow last night. So I put her bath on the desk. Then I saw her eyes sparkle! She dashed to the bath and started bathing. I even was able to take a video of her bathing (I'll put it on my Instagram gallery later. If you're interested, search my account, "yukariusagi" on Instagram). I'm sure she will have a bath tonight too!

波平の換羽はまだ継続中です。今は落ちている羽を見ることは少ないのですが、かわりになみちゃんの頭は新しい羽でツクツク状態です。きっとかゆいんでしょうねぇ。常に毛づくろいで忙しそうですから。
なみちゃんは水浴びなんて、めったにしないのですが、昨晩は何となく、今日は水浴びするんじゃないかと思ったわけです。それで、お風呂を準備してみると、なみちゃんの目の色が変わりました！猛ダッシュでお風呂に来たかと思うと、すぐに水浴びを開始です。今回は、ビデオ撮影もできました（こちらはインスタグラムでアップする予定です。ご覧になりたい方、インスタグラムで、"yukariusagi"のアカウントを検索してくださいね）！今夜もたぶん、水浴びしますね、なみちゃん。
