Happy Hatchday, Tara! / タラ、１歳になりました。

Tara (the blue opaline one) became 1 year old on March 14th.
I welcomed him on April 13th in 2018, so he was only a chick at that time. He looked so charming and I just took a shine to him.
To be honest, I didn't expect he would grow up like this. Well, he often behaves like a budgie kingpin and knows how to attract others. Perhaps he is very canny and smart, I suppose.
When he came to our house, AGY (Avian Gastric Yeast) was found and he had to be isolated for a month until it was gone. It was a tough time, but since then he has been doing well. I'm so glad to have him and share my life with him.
I want him to live a long and happy life.

 タラ（ブルーオパーリン）、３月14日に１歳になりました。
お迎えしたのが誕生日の１カ月後の４月13日なので、まだヒナヒナちゃんだったタラ。２羽目をお迎えすることは予定していましたが、じつは一目ぼれで即決お迎えでした。
その時は、まさかギャングの親玉のような子に育つとは思ってもいなかったのですが…。タラはきっと頭の回転がはやいタイプなんですね。
お迎えしてすぐ、メガバクが見つかり、約１カ月の隔離生活を送ったタラ。この１カ月はとても大変だったことを覚えています。幸いメガバクも退治して、その後は大きな病気もいっさいせずに１歳を迎えました。
タラと人生を共にできる幸せに感謝するとともに、タラがこれからもハッピーで長生きしてくれることを祈るばかりです。

Ikura and Tara meet chickweed. / ハコベさん、こんにちは。

Ikura and Tara both are curious budgies and it doesn't take time for them to get used to new things.
Plus they love eating anything... but they don't like a leaf veggie called "Komatsuna". I wanted them to eat it as it's good for their health, but they're stubborn.
Anyway they eat dried herbs and veggies, so it wasn't a big deal.
Then I've heard about chickweed. Budgies love chickweed so much and they enjoy pecking at it. I'm not sure if you do remember, but I wrote about chickweed in this blog last October. Yes, my mum sowed, and she has taken care of it. Finally it's time to face this organic chickweed!
At first Ikura and Tara got scared of this green leaf and kept running away. Then guess what, Ikura volunteered as a guinea pig. It was amazing to see how Ikura behaved... Tara must have watched Ikura very carefully, as he suddenly came to us and started pecking at chickweed too.
They were enchanted by this chickweed. Tara is so crazy about it now and it's so interesting to see his face when he is eating chickweed.
Apparently it's good for their health not only physically, but also psychologically.

 イクラとタラ、ふたりとも好奇心のかたまりで、新しいものに慣れるのにさほど時間はかかりません。
食べ物に関しても、ペレットを含めて何でも食べてくれるありがたいインコたちです。ところが、小松菜だけはどうしてもダメでした。
青菜がダメでも、乾燥ハーブやサラダなどは食べてくれるので、無理に小松菜をあげなくてもいいか、と思っていたときに、ハコベのことを知りました。
ハコベを実際栽培している愛鳥家さんからお話を聞いて、とりきち横丁さんでハコベの種を購入したのが昨年の10月。それから家庭菜園好きの母にいっさいを任せ、ようやくこの時がきました。
花も咲き始め、おそらく今が食べごろ。昨日鳥生初となるハコベとの対面は、恐怖そのものだったようで逃げ回るイクラとタラ。しばらくして、意を決してチャレンジしようと志願したのがなんとイクラでした（いつもならタラなんですけど）。
パクっとついばんだ後の表情が忘れられません。間違いなくおいしかったんでしょう。それをどこかでじっと見ていたであろうタラも参戦し、「おいしい～」と叫び声が聞こえてきそうなひと時でした。
この後、ふたりはすっかりハコベのとりこです。特にタラはこんなおいしいもの初めて食べたよ状態になっています。
セキセイインコさんの健康にも良いと言われるハコベですが、どうやら身体的だけでなく、精神的にもよい効果をもたらしてくれそうです。

So long, my little flight feather! / 風切羽にさようなら。

Tara will become one year old this month.
I had been a bit worried about his one flight feather since he faced his first moulting period. His feathers were clipped when I met him at a shop. When he faced his first moulting period, most of his clipped feathers were gone, but there was only one left for a long time.
What if it wasn't a clipped feather and something went wrong with him? This thought had been haunted me until recently. Yes, the last clipped one finally said goodbye to Tara a couple of days ago!
I know moulting is annoying, but this time I'm happy for him.
Ikura is also facing moulting now, but they never help each other... why don't they preen each other?

 ３月になりましたね。今月、タラは１歳の誕生日を迎えます。
最近までずっと不安に思っていたのが、タラの風切羽のことです。ショップでクリッピングされていたのですが、ヒナ換羽でほぼクリッピング羽は抜けました。ところが１枚だけ最近までずっと残っていたのです。
もしこれがクリッピングされた羽ではなく、なにか問題があるものだったら？そんな不安がずっと頭に残っていたのですが、水曜日にようやく抜けました！
換羽は愛鳥さんはもちろん、飼い主にとっても少々煩わしいものではありますが、今回はなんだかほっとしました。
タラだけでなく、イクラも換羽中で、顔まわりがツクツクしています。毎度思うのですが、なぜお互い羽繕いしないのでしょうか。こういうのも相性なんかが関係するんでしょうかね。
