Get used to New Things / 新しいものには時間がかかる

Namihei is a curious budgie and I don't think she is a coward. But it seems that it always takes time for her to get used to new things.
I've made a house for her and so far, she tries not to get near to it. And I also have changed her plates for her meal and water when she is out of her cage. Then she tried not to eat! Is she on hunger strike?!
Well, she will eat when I hold the plate and take it to her though. Perhaps she wants to make sure it is safe. I hope she will enjoy staying in the house in the future and trust me more!

波平は知りたがり屋のインコで、決してビビリではないと思うのですが、どうやら新しいものに直面した時は、慣れるのに時間がかかるようです。
なみちゃんのために作ったインコハウスにも、今のところ近寄らないようにしています。それから、放鳥時に用意するごはんとお水を入れるプレートを変えたのですが、今度はごはんを食べるのを我慢するように。なみちゃん、ハンストですかね？！
とりあえず、私がプレートを持ってなみちゃんに近づければ、ボリボリ食べ始めますが。きっと、「これは安全なものだ」という確証がほしいんでしょうね。はやくインコハウスで遊んでいる姿が見たいし、もっと私のことも信用してくれることを期待しています！

Flutter Wings / 波平のパタパタ

I have a couple of books about how to keep budgies and have learned that fluttering wings means a budgie shows disagreement.
Namihei flutters her wings when she faces something she doesn't like. Since it's a moulting period now, lots of her feathers fly everywhere and it annoys my mum!
Well, she often flutters her wings when I leave her for a while after supper. She knows it's time to play outside and doesn't waste her precious time, I suppose!

インコの飼い方本を何冊か持っていますが、羽をバタバタするのは、どうやら「やめてー！」というサインのようです。
波平がこのパタパタをやるのは、何か自分の気に食わないことが起こっているときです。今、ちょうど換羽期なので、このパタパタをされると、なみちゃんの抜けた羽が一気に舞いあがり、母親がなみちゃんを叱る始末。
それから、このパタパタをよくやるのが、私が夕食後にちょっとなみちゃんをひとりにしてしまう時です。きっと、もう放鳥時間だから１分たりとも無駄にしたくない、という気持ちの表れなのでしょうね！

Welcome to Namihei's House / 波平のお家へようこそ

Finally I made the bird house, which I was taking about recently. Well, it wasn't easy for me to make such thing, but it was for my lovely budgie, Namihei. I did it somehow! So please ignore it even if it looks a bit rough.
Hmm... so far Namihei hasn't been interested in the house. I had to lure her into the house with some seeds. Perhaps it always takes time to get used to something new, so hopefully she will enjoy staying inside in the future. Oops, I don't recommend to go upstairs though. Namihei is too heavy and I'm sure the house will collapse. Sorry about that!

やっと波平のお家が完成しましたよ～！正直なところ、決して簡単ではなかったです。なみちゃんを思う一心で、なんとか作り上げた、といったところでしょうか。というわけで、ちょっと歪んでたりするのは気にしないでくださいね（笑）。
今のところ、なみちゃんは全く関心ないようです。写真撮影のために、シードでおびき寄せてお家に入れてみましたが、すぐ逃亡しました。
たぶん、新しいものに慣れるには時間がかかるんでしょうね。いつかお家の中で楽しく遊んでいる姿を見せてほしいものです。あ、でも２階へ行くのはおすすめできません。なみちゃんはちょっと重すぎるので、たぶんお家が崩れてしまいます…。ごめんね、なみちゃん！

Food, glorious food! / もっと食べたい

Namihei has been on a diet since the vet told me to have her lose weight.
I know she loves eating and I wish I could feed her more, but I cannot let her gain weight anymore.
I keep her meals in a container (blending a various kinds of seeds) and I always scale the amount for one day.
These days Namihei always tried to sneak into the container to steal more seeds. Well, finally she made it! I'm so sure that she ate more than enough seeds inside the container... I cannot blame her though. We are actually in the same boat and I'm also struggling with losing weight now!

波平、ただいまダイエット中。病院で体重を減らすように言われているんです。
なみちゃんは食べるのが大好きで、私だってもっとごはんをあげたいのですが、これ以上太っちょにさせるわけにもいきません。
なみちゃんのごはんは、ブレンドしたシードをタッパーに入れて保存していますが、ここからいつもスケールで量って１日の食事をあげています。
最近、このタッパーに隙あらば入ろうとするなみちゃん。とうとうやりました。タッパーの中で無心に食べ続ける波平…。あまりの真剣さに止める気になれず（笑）。
しかも、なみちゃんのことを責めるわけにもいかないんですよね。だって私たちは同じ境遇で、飼い主だって減量できずにあがいているわけですから！

Namihei's Prank / 波平のいたずら

One night I wasn't able to sleep well, because my iPhone kept ringing every time a message came in.
I always turn my iPhone ringer off, so I really felt weird, Well, perhaps I turned it on somehow while I was sleeping. That was my conclusion at that time.
Last night, however, I found that I had been wrong. It was Namihei!
She likes hanging around my mobile phones and she was playing around them last night too. Then my iPhone rang when a message came in.
You know, it requires a bit strength to turn it. So I was really surprised at the fact... From now on, I always have to make sure my iPhone turns ringer off before going to bed. Well, just in case!

よく眠れなかった日があったのですが、それも夜中に iPhone がメッセージを受け取るたびに鳴ったからなんです。
いつもマナーモードにしているはずなのに、おかしいな、と思ったものの、きっと寝ぼけてスイッチを変えちゃったんだ、と思うことにしたわけです。
でも、昨晩この謎が解けました。そう、犯人は波平だったんです！
なみちゃんは携帯電話が大好きで、よくその周りで遊んでいるのですが、昨晩もいつものように、そばで遊んでいたわけです。そして、iPhone が鳴ったんです！
スイッチの部分を変えるのって、結構力が必要だと思うのですが、なみちゃんのいたずらパワーには脱帽です。これからは、寝る前にちゃんとマナーモードになっているかどうか、確認するようにします。万一に備えて！

Namihei's playland / 波平の遊び場

I try to make my room comfortable and fun for Namihei too. So far there are 4 spots for her and it seems that her favourite one is on the printer. When she wants to take a nap, she goes to next place where I put a rope as her perch.
And now I'm making a new one for her! It's a paper craft bird house. I'm wondering if she will like it though. Anyway, I'm sure it won't last long, as she will enjoy gnawing it!

波平が、心地よく、そして楽しく過ごせるよう、私の部屋を工夫するようにしています。今のところ、なみちゃんスペースは４箇所あるのですが、なみちゃんのお気に入りはどうやらプリンタの上のようです。
そして眠くなると、止まり木代わりに張ってあるロープへと移動し、そこで居眠りを始めるわけです。
そして今、新たにもう１つ、作っているんですよ。ペーパークラフトでできたバードハウスです。ただ、なみちゃんが気に入ってくれるかは疑問ですが…。どちらにしても、このバードハウス、すぐにガジガジされて破壊されてしまうと思うんですけどね。

Hide & Seek with Namihei / 波平とかくれんぼ

When Namihei is in a good mood, we can play together. For example, hide and seek. Well, I always hide, hide and hide, and she always seeks, seeks, and seeks though!
I just need to hide my face and don't need to hide properly. Then Namihei will try to look into my face. I really like Namihei's expression when she does it. It's like she is saying, "what's wrong, mate?"
I must say that every budgie has got a different appearance and they can show emotion so well!

波平の機嫌が良ければ、一緒に遊べるんですよ。たとえば、かくれんぼ。といっても、隠れるのはいつも私、探すのはいつもなみちゃん、なんですけどね。
完全に隠れる必要はなくて、顔だけ隠すと、探しにくるんですよ、なみちゃんが。そして、私の顔をのぞき込もうとするわけです。その時のなみちゃんの表情がとっても大好きです。まるで、「どうしたの？」と語りかけているようで。
インコちゃんたちは、みんなそれぞれ顔が違うんですよ。そして、どの子も感情を豊かに表現することができるんです！
