Moulting / 換羽

Both Ikura and Tara are suffering from moulting now, but fortunately they are doing well. Ikura has a bit sloppy droppings, but except that I don't see any problem in him. As for Tara, he is getting so sweet and he comes to me for scratching. Okay, I'm the one who does preen him.
Well, I changed their diet from this week due to their moulting. They usually eat "Roudybush Daily Maintenance" (pellets) mainly, but now they eat "Roudybush Breeder". It's high protein and low fat, and ideal for birds with moulting. The colour is a bit different, but they don't mid it at all and eat it without any problem.
I hope they can finish their moulting smoothly.

ただいま絶賛換羽中のイクラとタラ。ありがたいことにふたりとも元気にしています。イクラはちょっと水っぽいフンをしていますが、それ以外は特に問題は見当たりません。
タラはといえば、すっかり甘えん坊になり、カキカキ役は私の仕事となっています。
そんな換羽中のふたりの食事を今週から変更してみました。普段ふたりがメインで食べているのがラウディブッシュのデイリーメンテナンスというペレット。今週からは同じラウディブッシュのブリーダーというものに変更しました。こちらのペレットは高たんぱく質・低脂肪となっていますので、換羽のふたりにはぴったりです。
デイリーメンテナンスと色が少し異なるのですが、そんなことはまったく問題にならないようで、いつも通りの食欲で食べてくれています。
これでスムーズに換羽期を乗り越えてほしいですね！

Ikura's cup of tea, Tara's cup of tea / イクラとタラ 好みはそれぞれ

After I wake up Ikura and Tara, I always give them breakfast in my room. These days I let them work with foraging toys to get their pellets.
Well, it's very interesting to watch them. Ikura always goes to a Ferris wheel while Tara goes to a yellow toy called "Tip and Treat".
It seems that they have their own preference. As for Tara, I really think he is very bright. He seems to understand that "foraging" is more valuable than "offering". I put some pellets in some pots as well, and Tara knows about it. Yet he chooses to go to the foraging toy and get some pellets by himself.
Erm... as for Ikura, I must say he is a bit lazy. He first goes to the pots and then dashes to the Ferris wheel. Well, perhaps he is cleaver in a different way though!

イクラとタラの朝ごはんは、いつもケージから出て私の部屋で食べてもらっています。
最近は、フォレジングトイを活用してペレットをあげるようにしているのですが、おもしろい発見がありました。
イクラはいつも観覧車を選び、タラは必ずチップ＆トリート（写真にある黄色のもの）に向かっていきます。
どうやらふたりそれぞれ自分の好みというものがあるようです。
タラに関してさらに賢いインコと思わせる一面も。フォレジングトイのほか、小さな鍋にもペレットを入れて置いてあるのですが、タラはそれを知っていても必ずフォレジングトイへダッシュします。どうやら与えられるだけのごはんより、自分で努力して得たごはんの方に価値があることを理解しているようなんです。
一方イクラはといえば、ちょっと怠けもの（笑）なのか、まずはお鍋のペレットを食べてから観覧車へと進みます。まあこちらも別の意味では賢いのかもしれませんね。

Happy New Year! / あけましておめでとうございます。

Say hello to 2019! I'm happy to welcome a new year with my beloved budgies, Ikura and Tara. They were doing well during the New Year holidays, so I didn't need to think of visiting a vet at all.
So far we manage to live on without heating. When the temperature drops to 15C, I'll prepare heating for Ikura and Tara.
There are many things I want to achieve this year, but all I want is Ikura and Tara doing well and living happily.
And of course, I'll be very careful with my own health as well. I've got responsibility for their lives.

あけましておめでとうございます。
イクラとタラと一緒にこうして無事に新年を迎えることができて、幸せな気持ちでいっぱいです。お正月休み中も元気に過ごしてくれたので、病院どうしよう…なんて思うこともありませんでした。
いまのところ、我が家ではまだ暖房器具をいっさい使っていません。イクラとタラのケージも保温対策はビニールカバーくらいです。
室温が15度以下になったら、ケージの保温を始めようかと思っていますが、今のところふたりとも寒さにもしっかり対応しているように見えます。
今年の抱負はたくさんありますが、やはり一番の願いはイクラとタラが元気に、そして幸せに過ごしてくれることですね。もちろん、自分自身の健康にも細心の注意を払いたいと思います、ふたりのお世話という責任がありますからね。
