Eat, eat, and eat / 食べて、食べて、また食べて。

If you lose your appetite, that's the end. We can say the same thing for budgies, I suppose.
Today I prepared Namihei's mean with mainly seeds and she loved it. I'm sure she did enjoy eating the seeds while I was away home, so her weight wasn't so bad when I came back home.
As for the medicine water, I have no idea if she did actually take it.
When I prepared it in the morning, it was 49.6g including the plate. When I came back home, it was 48.1g. Besides I found a couple of seeds inside the plate.
At least she eats well and this is very important. Now I'll trust her strength and just hope her beak will be healed completely.
Anyway, let's see how it goes at the clinic tomorrow!

食欲がなくなったら終わり…。これって、インコにも言えることだと思うんです。
今日はシード多めで波平のごはんを用意しましたが、なみちゃんもそれがお気に召したようです。日中、私が仕事で外に出ている間、ごはんを堪能したんでしょうね。帰宅してから体重を測りましたが、それほど落ちていませんでした。
では、例のお薬入りのお水はといえば、ちゃんと飲んでいるのかナゾのままです。朝、準備した時は、容器も含めて、49.6グラムありましたが、帰宅時には48.1グラムに減っていました。さらに、容器の中にシードが２粒入っていたんですよね。
少なくとも、よく食べていることは間違いなく、食欲も大切なことだと思っています。今はただ、なみちゃんの強さを信じ、クチバシ問題が解決しれくれることを祈るばかりです。
とりあえずは、明日の診察でどうなるかですね！

Something is happening to Namihei. / 波平に何かが起こっている。

Although I don't see Namihei drink the medicine drink, I'm sure she does drink it. This is why something is happening to Namihei.
First, I noticed that the colour of her beak changed. At first, it was kind of red, like a stain on her beak, but it got dark colour.
Does it mean the medicine is working?!
She also pushes her beak on the perch in her cage. I think she is trying to file it.
Well, I need to change her meal a little bit, as she is still losing her weight. From tomorrow, I reduce pellets and add more seeds so that she enjoys eating more.
Then we can visit the vet on Saturday!

私が見ている限りでは、波平はお薬入りのお水は飲んでいませんが、やはり少しは飲んでいるのでしょうか。なみちゃんの体に変化が起こっているようです。
まず、クチバシの色が変わりました。最初は赤っぽい、しみのような感じだったのですが、それが今はもっと暗い色になっています。
これって、お薬が効いている証拠なんでしょうか？それから、クチバシを止まり木に押し当てて、じょりじょりすることが増えました。
なみちゃんのごはんの内容を見直さないといけません。まだ体重が減り続けているので、明日からはペレットを減らして、シードを多めに追加します。そうすれば、もっと楽しく食べられますからね。そして、土曜日に病院へ行きますよ！

dehydration / 脱水症状。

Today I skipped a class at photography school and came back home straight away from work.
Last night Namihei looked a bit dizzy when I came back home and this must have been dehydration, I suppose. She is so reluctant to drink the medicine water in her cage, so I'm sure she didn't take it much in the daytime.
I gave her pure water and then she looked better.
I worried about her so much and that's why I came back quickly. Fortunately she was fine today. The problem is she is still moulting and she is losing her weight. I can't wait to take her to the vet again this Saturday. Hope everything is going to be alright!

今日は写真教室の授業をお休みして、仕事が終わってからまっすぐダッシュで家に戻ってきました。
昨晩、帰宅して波平をケージから出すと、ふらついているように見えました。おそらく、脱水症状だったのだと思います。お薬が入ったお水を飲みたがらないので、日中お水を飲んでいなかったのでしょうね。
急いで真水をあげると、回復したように見えました。
なみちゃんがとっても心配で、今日はこうして猛ダッシュで帰宅したわけですが、幸い落ち着いているようでした。ただ、まだ換羽で羽根も抜けているし、体重が落ちていることも心配です。土曜日に病院へ連れていくのが待ち遠しいほどです。すべてうまくいって、なみちゃんが元気になりますように！

Still moulting / まだ換羽中。

I thought that Namihei would finish moulting soon, but it came back last Saturday. I found many feathers dropped in her cage when I woke up her, or when I came back home.
This time I'm really worried, because she doesn't eat a lot. It was mostly empty when I checked her meal box in the morning or when I came back home. But now I can see some left in the box.
She lost her weight a bit, though it might be because she lost her feathers a lot.
Well, she is reluctant to drink the water with the medicine. Perhaps it tastes disgusting, but this is the only water she can have now!

波平、換羽はもうすぐ終わると思っていたのですが、また先週の土曜日頃から抜け始めました。朝、なみちゃんを起こす時、それから仕事から帰宅した時、ケージをのぞくと、ごっそり抜けた羽根が床に落ちています。
今回、心配なのがなみちゃんの食欲。どうも落ちているんですよね。朝晩えさ箱をチェックすると、たいてい空っぽになっているのですが、ここのところ、結構残ってるんです。
羽根がたくさん抜けているせいもあるかもしれませんが、体重も落ちています。
そして、お薬入りのお水はとってもまずいのか、飲みたがらないので困っています。でも、これを飲まないと元気になりませんからね！

The best treatment / 最善の治療法

Yesterday I took Namihei to another clinic to have a second opinion. According to the vet, she hasn't got a problem in her liver. If she had, it would affect not only her beak, but also other areas, such as her feathers and nails.
Then what causes the problem on her beak? Well, it's very difficult to diagnose it, because if we want to do it, we need to take her beak for a test.
It can be some infections, or a tumour.
I've decided to accept this vet's advice and started antimicrobial therapy for Namihei. Since we're not able to specify what kind of infection, we need to try several types. If we don't see any progress, we'll move on a blood test and check whether or not it can be a tumour.
I really hope this is an infection and antibiotics will work completely.
Oh, Namihei has got a new house. It's so huge! It seems that she likes it, so I'm sure she'll enjoy herself even in a cage.

昨日、セカンドオピニオンを求めて、波平を別の病院へ連れていきました。
先生によると、肝臓は悪くないとのこと。もし肝臓が悪ければ、クチバシだけでなく、羽や爪といった他の部位にも症状が現れるはずだということです。
では、何が原因でクチバシが欠けてしまっているのか。じつは、原因を特定するのは非常に難しいようです。病理検査するには、なみちゃんのクチバシをとらなければいけないそうなので。
可能性としては、何かの感染症か、腫瘍。今回、セカンドオピニオンを受け入れ、新たな治療をスタートすることに決めました。感染症だったとしても、どんな菌なのかは特定できないので、まずはいろんな抗菌剤を試していきます。これで改善がみられなければ、血液検査をして、腫瘍なのかどうかを判断することになります。
感染症であってほしいです。そして、抗菌剤がちゃんと作用してくれることを望みます。
なみちゃん、新しいお家が届きました。豪邸並みの広さに、なみちゃんもご満足の様子です。これでケージの中にいるときも、楽しく過ごせますね。

A Second Opinion / セカンドオピニオン

When you're sick, will you have a second opinion from another doctor?
I've decided to have it for my budgie, Namihei. I'm taking her to a new clinic tomorrow. At first, only one side of her beak was a little bit cracked, but now both sides have got cracked. So far she is doing well, but I don't want to face the "too late" situation. I've got a responsibility for this precious life.
I really hope she'll be fine completely even if it takes time.
Oh, by the way, I did order her new cage and it's coming tomorrow. I want to buy some new perches for it so that she can play more even in the cage!

もし病気になったら、ほかのお医者さんからセカンドオピニオンをもらいますか？
セカンドオピニオン、波平のためにとろうと決め、急ですが明日、新しい病院へなみちゃんを連れていくことになりました。
はじめは、片側のクチバシが少し欠けているだけだったのに、今じゃ両側同じように欠けています。それ以外は、いつも通り元気にしてはいるものの、手遅れになる事態だけは、どうしても避けなければなりません。飼い主として、私がこの大切ないのちに責任を持っているんですからね。
ところで、前回のブログ記事に書いたように、ステンレス製のケージを注文しましたよ。明日、配送予定なので、新しい止まり木などを買い足したいと思っています。これで、ケージにいる間も広々しているので遊びまわれますね！

A New House / 新しいお家

I'm thinking about getting a new cage for Namihei.
The current one is quite small and plated one, so I'm a bit worried about metal poisoning.
I've heard that the one made with stainless material is safe for budgies, so I'm thinking of such one. The problem is it's very expensive. I know we cannot buy health with money though.
Perhaps I'll place an order before going to bed tonight.
I want her to enjoy her time even when she is in her cage. Besides I've also read that too small space can be stressful for a budgie.
Oh, I have to postpone buying new shoes again! ha ha

今、波平に新しいケージを購入することを検討しています。
今のケージは、なみちゃんにはちょっと窮屈に見える上、メッキ処理の材質なので、金属中毒を心配しています。
ステンレスでできたケージがインコには安全だと聞いたことがあるので、ステンレス製を購入したいのですが、結構お高いんですね！もちろん、健康はお金にはかえられませんが…。
おそらく、今夜寝る前にネットでぽちっと購入していると思います（笑）。
なみちゃんには、ケージでお留守番している時間も楽しく過ごしてほしいです。それに、あまりにも狭いケージはインコにとってストレスになるとネットの記事で読みました。
そんなわけで、新しい靴を買うのはまた延期になりそうです。
