Namihei came to my room. / 波平の訪問

Do you believe supernatural events? Have you ever experienced such incidents?
Well, I do believe something we cannot explain logically and I've experienced such things many times.
I know I sound a bit weird, but Namihei came to my room on Monday. It was the day the magazine was published. What's magazine? The one for which Namihei and I got interviewed.
When I came home from work and entered my room, I found this. Two photos of Namihei hung on the wall were nearly dropping.
This is the place where Namihei used to play a lot and these photos had been there since this summer when Namihei was still with me. And they had never dropped nor even moved a bit.
I know Namihei must have played there and wanted to leave a sign for me.
I wasn't scared at all and rather felt happy. Namihei, you're very special!

 超常現象を信じますか？何か論理的には説明できないようなことを体験したことはありますか？
私は不思議なことや奇跡といったものは信じるタイプで、うまく説明できないような不思議な体験をしたことも何度もあります。
こんなことを言うと、変な人だと思われますが、月曜日、波平が私の部屋に遊びにきたんです。月曜日といえば、私たちが取材を受けた雑誌の発売日。
仕事から帰宅し、部屋に入ると、壁に飾ってあった波平の写真が２つ、今にも落ちそうな絶妙なバランスでぶらっとしていました。
写真は波平がまだ闘病中だった夏からずっと飾っていたのですが、今まで一度も落ちたことも、ましてやちょっとでも動いたこともありませんでした。
そしてこの場所、波平コーナーにしているように、生前よく波平が好んで遊んでいた場所です。
きっと、遊びにきて、「来たよ」のサインを残したかったんでしょうね。
怖いというより、むしろなんだかとってもうれしい気持ちになりました。やっぱり波平は、特別な存在ですね。

Happy Bird Life / 『小鳥のキモチ』Vol. 5

Namihei (and I) got interviewed for a magazine in August and it was published today.
We were supposed to read this article together, but unfortunately she passed away about two weeks after the interview.
As you know, Namihei was suffering from a cancer and had no upper beak.
The theme was "Happy Bird Life" and I was thinking what to do when we had an offer. Who would want to see Namihei? If someone don't know about her, he/she may think she is a miserable budgie... well, I didn't want to hesitate to say how happy we were. I wanted to tell that we could have hope no matter what would happen.
We really did everything we could and loved each other. I know she is gone now, but I'm sure she is proud of the article.
And I really appreciate the presence of Ikura. I know he can communicate with Namihei somehow.

いつもかわいい写真でいっぱいのムック本、『小鳥のキモチ』をご存知ですか？
本日発売になった Vol.5 の "Happy Bird Life" という企画に、波平が登場しています。
取材のお話をいただいたとき、波平はすでにガン闘病中で、クチバシもない状態でした。こんな姿でお受けしていいのか悩みながらも、やはり病気でも毎日幸せに過ごすことができる、ということを知ってほしくて、一緒に取材を受けました。
発売したら一緒に雑誌を読むはずだった波平。取材のあと、２週間ほどして、旅立ちました。
波平の病状をお伝えし、いろいろとお気遣いいただいた編集部の方々。波平が旅立ってしまって、急きょ記事の内容を差し替えてくださったりと、最後まで丁寧に対応してくださって、本当に感謝しています。
波平のおかげでたくさんのことを学び、いろんなことに気づかされました。
我が家にはいま、イクラがいます。イクラのことも精一杯愛して、1日1日を大切に過ごしていきたいと思いました。

Ikura and a shelf on casrers / イクラとワゴン

I bought a shelf on casters for Ikura's cage. Well, Ikura has got a huge stainless-steel cage and it's so heavy.
He is in my room while I'm in the room and when I go to work, I let him stay in the living room. So I have to carry this super heavy cage again and again and that was enough...
Now I just push the shelf everywhere and it's so smooth! Ikura looks a bit tensed, but I'm sure he'll get used to it in the end.
The weather will be okay tomorrow, so I'll clean up his cage and let him enjoy the sunshine for a while!

 イクラのケージを置くために、キャスター付きの台を購入しました。
イクラのケージ（波平のおふるですが）、ステンレス製でかなり大きく、ものすごく重いです。
私が部屋にいる時は、イクラも一緒に部屋で過ごすのですが、仕事で家を出てしまうときはリビングに移動したりと、1日の中でリビングと部屋を何度も往復しなければなりません。もう重くて限界…。というわけで、キャスター付きの台を購入したのですが、かなり重宝しています。イクラは見慣れない台にちょっとビビリ気味ですが、じきに慣れると思います。
明日は天気が良さそうなので、ケージも掃除して、イクラにも日光浴させてあげたいですね。

Stan Smith shoes / スタンスミスのスニーカー

When I see something with bird prints, it's not easy to resist it.
And this is what I bought for my birthday. It's a shoe from Adidas, Stan Smith. And look, it has got bird prints!!!
How can I resist it?!
Guess what, I also bought a rucksack with the same prints.
Ikura is checking my new shoes. Does he think it's his new house?!
Well, I also got lovely bird pouches from one of my colleagues. I'm so happy now and of course, Ikura also makes me happy too!

 鳥モチーフのグッズを見ると、どうしても欲しくなるのは、やはり仕方のないこと。
そして誕生日だからいいかと思って購入したのがこちら、アディダスのスタンスミスです。なんと、鳥柄なんですよ。一見派手に見えますが、靴なのでワンポイントになっていいです。じつは、同じ柄のリュックも購入しました。靴とリュックはさすがに同時にはダメですね（笑）。
イクラも鳥柄の靴には興味があったのか、近づいていました。もしかして、新しいお家だなんて思っていませんよね？！
そして、職場の同僚からも素敵なプレゼントをいただきました。インコモチーフの入れ物です。鳥に囲まれて、そしてイクラと一緒で幸せな毎日です。

Ikura is a healthy eater. / イクラ、好き嫌いはありません。

In Japan it was a three-day weekend and I was able to spend enough time with Ikura. Besides the weather was so lovely, so I let him enjoy the sunshine outside too.
Well, Ikura is a healthy eater and it's good to let a budgie to try various types of foods when he/she is still young.
So far Ikura eats most of the foods I give him, but he doesn't like rose hip. He eats herbs though.
I always want to offer him opportunities to try many kinds of foods, so that he will pick up something he needs too.

３連休はお天気にも恵まれ、まさに行楽日和でしたね。私はイクラと過ごす時間も十分に確保できた上、イクラを日光浴させることもでき、充実した連休になりました。
ところで、イクラはありがたいことに、食べ物の好き嫌いがありません。
小さい頃からいろんな食べ物に挑戦させることは、とても良いことだと思います。
イクラは私があげるものはだいたい食べてくれますが、ローズヒップの実は苦手なようです。とりあえず、ハーブはよくつまんでいますが。
これからも、いろんな食べ物にチャレンジする機会を与えてあげたいと思います。そうすれば、自分に足りないもの、必要なものを自覚して、しっかり食べてくれそうな気がします。

Mt. Ikura / イクラ山

Do you know Mt. Fuji? In Japan we often consider Mt. Fuji as kind of a lucky charm. Then how about Mt. Ikura?
Don't you think it's also quite beautiful?!
Well, it was my birthday today and I'm so happy to have Ikura. Of course, Namihei is my lucky yellow budgie forever and here is my lucky blue budgie.
This morning Ikura said "Ikura-chan kawaii" (it means "Ikura-chan, cute").
He is picking up many words from me day by day!

 富士山といえば、縁起物ですよね。では、イクラ山はどうでしょうか？
イクラ山も、富士山に負けず劣らず、美しい山…ですよね？！
今日は飼い主の誕生日でした。イクラが一緒にいてくれて、とても幸せです。もちろん、永遠の幸せの黄色い鳥は波平。そしてイクラが幸せの青い鳥ですね。
今朝、イクラがまた新しい言葉を披露してくれました。「イクラちゃん…かわいいね。」ようやく法則がわかってきたのですが、熱心に教えている言葉に限って覚えず、普段よく耳にする言葉をどんどん覚えていくのですね。

Chatty budgie, Ikura / おしゃべりインコ、イクラ

These days I hurry to go home from work so that I can spend more time with Ikura. Well, he is so sweet and loves playing with me.
He usually likes jumping from my hand to the other one.
When he gets tired he goes back to his cage and takes a rest for a while.
Oh, Ikura keeps saying "Ikura-chan" and "Ikura". While I have supper, he keeps saying them in his cage.
Hmm... he says something else, but I cannot get what he is saying yet. So I must say it's still Ikura language... One day he may start singing a song! We shall see.

 最近、仕事が終わると急いで家に帰るようにしています。これもイクラと少しでも長く一緒にいられるようにするため。イクラ、愛嬌があって、一緒に遊ぶとよろこんでくれます。
イクラが好きな遊びは、私の手から手へ飛びながら移動するといったゲーム感覚のもの。
遊んで疲れてしまったら、ちゃんと自分でケージに戻って休んでいます。
それから、言ってますよ、「イクラちゃん」と「イクラ」。リビングで夕飯を食べていると、隣でケージの中でイクラがひたすら自分の名前を連呼します。
ほかにも何かおしゃべりしているのですが、まだちゃんと聞きとることができません。きっとまだ、イクラ語なんですね。いつか、歌を歌い出す日も来るかもしれませんね。とりあえず、期待して見守ります！
