Christmas with Ikura / イクラと過ごすクリスマス

Last Christmas I spent with Namihei, as you know and it was uneasy, because we already started visiting a vet for her problem.
When I see thousands of photos of Namihei, I've got mixed feelings. Of course, it's quite normal for someone who lost his/her beloved family members.
Anyway, this year I can spend a peaceful Christmas with Ikura. He is doing well and always makes me happy with his cheerfulness.
The problem is he often copies what I say... though I'm not teaching him!
Oh, and he seems to be very popular because he has got some Christmas gifts from some followers on Instagram. Me? None!!!
Let me wish all of you a Merry Christmas!

 昨年のクリスマスは、ご存知のように波平と一緒でした。その時にはもうなみちゃんのクチバシの問題で、病院通いを始めていたので、心落ち着くクリスマスではなかった気がします。
何千ものなみちゃんの写真を見返すとき、いろんな気持ちが入り混じっているのは、きっと不思議なことではないんですよね。とても大切な家族を失ったら、きっと誰でもそんな気持ちになるんだと思います。
今年のクリスマスは、イクラと一緒。そして、とても穏やかなクリスマスを迎えられそうですよ。
イクラが毎日元気に過ごしてくれることに、本当に感謝しています。イクラの明るさが、いつも私の心を明るくしてくれます。
ただ、何でも私が言ったことをマネされちゃうのが問題ですけど…。教えてるつもりはないんですよ。
そして、イクラはずいぶん人気のようです。なんと、インスタグラムのフォロワーの方々からクリスマスプレゼントを受け取っています。モテインコですね。ちなみに飼い主は、ゼロです（笑）。

Ikura is growing up. / イクラの成長

Ikura is doing well and so am I!
Last Friday I joined a company's party and came home late.
Since my mum was at home, I asked her to look after Ikura with giving him supper and letting him go to sleep, and so on.
I often thought of Ikura during the party and missed him so much.
Did he miss me too?!
Anyway, he did well and looked fine on Saturday morning.
Oh, on Friday some foods and a toy for Ikura arrived from Germany. I get some organic foods for Ikura from Germany and get some seeds and pellets in Japan.
Anyway, I'm always happy as long as Ikura is doing well!

 イクラも私もおかげさまで元気にしています。
先週金曜日は、職場の忘年会があり、イクラは鳥生初の夜放鳥なしとなりました。
母が家にいたので、夕飯のことやおやすみカバーの掛け方など細々としたことを伝えましたが、忘年会中もイクラのことが頭をよぎり、かなりイクラロスになっていた飼い主。
イクラも同じように寂しく思ってくれていたでしょうか？
無事にお留守番を終え、土曜日の朝を元気に迎えたイクラです。
そういえば金曜日に、ドイツのお店、「とりきち横丁」さんからの荷物が届いていました。今回は写真にあるはしご？のおもちゃも一緒に購入しました。
ペレットなどは国内調達ですが、シードメインのイクラにとって、いろいろなオーガニックごはんは欠かせません。
イクラが元気でいてくれると、私も元気に毎日を過ごすことができます！

Ikura Land / イクラランド

It has been three months since Ikura came to my house and I'm really grateful that he has been doing well.
Well, Christmas is coming soon and I know it's a bit early, but I've made Ikura Land for him as a Christmas gift. It's rather a tower, but I still want to call it "Ikura Land".
This is the place where he can enjoy playing a lot.
Since we share a room, I cannot make a huge playground. But so far Ikura enjoys playing there and I'm so happy to see that!

イクラをお迎えして3ヵ月が経ちました。これまで元気に過ごしてくれたこと、本当に感謝しています。
もうすぐクリスマスですね。クリスマスプレゼントにはちょっと早いのですが、イクラが遊べる場所を作りました。
「イクラランド」です！ランドと言うより、タワーですが（笑）、そこは狭い住宅事情によりこうなりました。
最初は少し怖がっている様子でしたが、私がはしごに手をかけると、安全だと思ったのか、遊び始めました。
こうやって楽しそうに遊ぶイクラの姿を見るだけで、私も幸せな気分になります。

Let's have a laugh together! / 一緒に笑おう。

I can't believe that it's already December. It means this year will be gone soon.
Well, Ikura and I both are doing well and I just placed an order for Ikura's meals at a shop in Germany. Yes, I buy some organic seeds and grasses there and hopefully the package will arrive before Christmas. I ordered a toy for Ikura as a Christmas gift too.

 気がつけばもう１２月ですね。2017年ももうすぐ終わり。月日が経つのは本当にはやいです。
おかげさまで、イクラも私も元気にしています。ちょうどイクラのごはんをドイツのとりきち横丁さんで注文を済ませたところです。こちらで日本では購入できないようなハーブやグラス類を注文しているのですが、今回はイクラのクリスマスプレゼントとしておもちゃも購入したので、クリスマスまでに届くといいのですが…。
前回の記事でイクラのおしゃべりや、笑うことなどを書いた気がするのですが、インスタグラムで動画をアップしたので、こちらでもリンクを貼らせていただきます。
「イクラだよ～」以外歌詞は不明ですが、上機嫌で歌っています。そして最後の大笑い。
このおっさん笑いは何だ？！と思われるかもしれませんが、私のマネですね。自分でもこんな笑い方してるなんて、ちょっと信じられないんですけど（笑）。

Seminar on companion birds / バードライフアドバイザー３級

Today I attended a seminar on companion birds and the theme was how to make a bird and his/her owner both happy.
Well, I'm so grateful that there are many seminars and workshops available these days. It's always important to learn something new for our birds.
Well, the seminar was very interesting and I did have a good time there.
And Ikura is doing well though he still faces his first moulting.
These days he is talking a lot and tonight he was singing... I took a video of his singing! When I post it on Instagram, I'll share the link here.

今日はTSUBASAさん主催の『バードライフアドバイザー３級』講座を受講してきました。テーマは「鳥と私が幸せになる」です。大切なのは、飼い主である私もハッピーでなくてはならないことですね。
講座はとてもおもしろかったです。来年２級の講座もあるそうなので、予定があえばぜひ受講してみたいです。
我が家の暴れん坊将軍、イクラですが、元気にしています。ヒナ換羽もまだまだ続いていて、ちょうど左右の風切羽が１枚ずつ抜けました。
最近は、おしゃべりに力を入れているようで、ケージの中でも自主練に励んでいます。さきほど、歌ってました。しっかり動画におさめましたので、インスタグラムにアップした際は、こちらでもリンクを貼らせていただきますね。

Repeat after me! / リピート、アフターミー！

Ikura is very talkative and he often keeps talking... I mean in Japanese!
This morning it was so funny that he repeated after me twice.
When I told him, "Ikura, wait a sec", he did copy it. And then I said "Ikura, eat!", he said it right away.
Don't you think he is so smart?
By the way, he is still moulting and this is the first one for him.
Well, I've noticed that his colour is getting green a bit. Yes, Ikura is blue colour, but now he is kind of emerald green.
Anyway, we shall see how he will be. Of course, Ikura is Ikura no matter what colour he has got!

イクラ、だいぶおしゃべりインコになってきたようで、よくおしゃべりの練習をしています。
今朝、とってもおもしろいことがありました。なんと、私のマネを２回もしたんです。
「イクラ、ちょっと待って」と言うと、イクラもすかさず同じことを言うではありませんか。その後、「イクラ、ご飯食べて」と言うと、やはり小声で繰り返しました。
こうして言葉を覚えていくのでしょうか。
ところで、イクラはただいま絶賛換羽中です。最初のヒナ換羽ですね。そして、いつの間にかエメラルドグリーンに変化してきていることに気づいたんです。そうです、イクラはお迎えした時は水色の子でした。でも今は、だいぶエメラルドグリーンなんです（写真ではほとんどわかりませんが）。今後、どのように変化するのか気になります。
もちろん、どんな色になっても、イクラはイクラですけど！

Chatty Ikura / おしゃべりインコ、イクラ

I spent most of the time with Ikura this weekend. Although it was raining yesterday, it was a lovely day today. I did clean up Ikura's cage and he also enjoyed the sunshine outside for a while.
Well, it seems that Ikura loves talking a lot and he even calls my name, "Yukari" too. I made a couple of videos and put them on Instagram.

 週末はイクラとほぼずっと一緒に過ごすことができました。土曜日はあいにくの雨だったのですが、今日は快晴で、ケージを掃除したり、イクラも外でしばらく日光浴を楽しむことができましたよ。
ところで、イクラはどうやらおしゃべりに目覚めたようです。母が私を呼ぶせいか、私の名前、「ゆかりちゃん」とまで言い出す始末（笑）。

Namihei came to my room. / 波平の訪問

Do you believe supernatural events? Have you ever experienced such incidents?
Well, I do believe something we cannot explain logically and I've experienced such things many times.
I know I sound a bit weird, but Namihei came to my room on Monday. It was the day the magazine was published. What's magazine? The one for which Namihei and I got interviewed.
When I came home from work and entered my room, I found this. Two photos of Namihei hung on the wall were nearly dropping.
This is the place where Namihei used to play a lot and these photos had been there since this summer when Namihei was still with me. And they had never dropped nor even moved a bit.
I know Namihei must have played there and wanted to leave a sign for me.
I wasn't scared at all and rather felt happy. Namihei, you're very special!

 超常現象を信じますか？何か論理的には説明できないようなことを体験したことはありますか？
私は不思議なことや奇跡といったものは信じるタイプで、うまく説明できないような不思議な体験をしたことも何度もあります。
こんなことを言うと、変な人だと思われますが、月曜日、波平が私の部屋に遊びにきたんです。月曜日といえば、私たちが取材を受けた雑誌の発売日。
仕事から帰宅し、部屋に入ると、壁に飾ってあった波平の写真が２つ、今にも落ちそうな絶妙なバランスでぶらっとしていました。
写真は波平がまだ闘病中だった夏からずっと飾っていたのですが、今まで一度も落ちたことも、ましてやちょっとでも動いたこともありませんでした。
そしてこの場所、波平コーナーにしているように、生前よく波平が好んで遊んでいた場所です。
きっと、遊びにきて、「来たよ」のサインを残したかったんでしょうね。
怖いというより、むしろなんだかとってもうれしい気持ちになりました。やっぱり波平は、特別な存在ですね。

Happy Bird Life / 『小鳥のキモチ』Vol. 5

Namihei (and I) got interviewed for a magazine in August and it was published today.
We were supposed to read this article together, but unfortunately she passed away about two weeks after the interview.
As you know, Namihei was suffering from a cancer and had no upper beak.
The theme was "Happy Bird Life" and I was thinking what to do when we had an offer. Who would want to see Namihei? If someone don't know about her, he/she may think she is a miserable budgie... well, I didn't want to hesitate to say how happy we were. I wanted to tell that we could have hope no matter what would happen.
We really did everything we could and loved each other. I know she is gone now, but I'm sure she is proud of the article.
And I really appreciate the presence of Ikura. I know he can communicate with Namihei somehow.

いつもかわいい写真でいっぱいのムック本、『小鳥のキモチ』をご存知ですか？
本日発売になった Vol.5 の "Happy Bird Life" という企画に、波平が登場しています。
取材のお話をいただいたとき、波平はすでにガン闘病中で、クチバシもない状態でした。こんな姿でお受けしていいのか悩みながらも、やはり病気でも毎日幸せに過ごすことができる、ということを知ってほしくて、一緒に取材を受けました。
発売したら一緒に雑誌を読むはずだった波平。取材のあと、２週間ほどして、旅立ちました。
波平の病状をお伝えし、いろいろとお気遣いいただいた編集部の方々。波平が旅立ってしまって、急きょ記事の内容を差し替えてくださったりと、最後まで丁寧に対応してくださって、本当に感謝しています。
波平のおかげでたくさんのことを学び、いろんなことに気づかされました。
我が家にはいま、イクラがいます。イクラのことも精一杯愛して、1日1日を大切に過ごしていきたいと思いました。

Ikura and a shelf on casrers / イクラとワゴン

I bought a shelf on casters for Ikura's cage. Well, Ikura has got a huge stainless-steel cage and it's so heavy.
He is in my room while I'm in the room and when I go to work, I let him stay in the living room. So I have to carry this super heavy cage again and again and that was enough...
Now I just push the shelf everywhere and it's so smooth! Ikura looks a bit tensed, but I'm sure he'll get used to it in the end.
The weather will be okay tomorrow, so I'll clean up his cage and let him enjoy the sunshine for a while!

 イクラのケージを置くために、キャスター付きの台を購入しました。
イクラのケージ（波平のおふるですが）、ステンレス製でかなり大きく、ものすごく重いです。
私が部屋にいる時は、イクラも一緒に部屋で過ごすのですが、仕事で家を出てしまうときはリビングに移動したりと、1日の中でリビングと部屋を何度も往復しなければなりません。もう重くて限界…。というわけで、キャスター付きの台を購入したのですが、かなり重宝しています。イクラは見慣れない台にちょっとビビリ気味ですが、じきに慣れると思います。
明日は天気が良さそうなので、ケージも掃除して、イクラにも日光浴させてあげたいですね。

Stan Smith shoes / スタンスミスのスニーカー

When I see something with bird prints, it's not easy to resist it.
And this is what I bought for my birthday. It's a shoe from Adidas, Stan Smith. And look, it has got bird prints!!!
How can I resist it?!
Guess what, I also bought a rucksack with the same prints.
Ikura is checking my new shoes. Does he think it's his new house?!
Well, I also got lovely bird pouches from one of my colleagues. I'm so happy now and of course, Ikura also makes me happy too!

 鳥モチーフのグッズを見ると、どうしても欲しくなるのは、やはり仕方のないこと。
そして誕生日だからいいかと思って購入したのがこちら、アディダスのスタンスミスです。なんと、鳥柄なんですよ。一見派手に見えますが、靴なのでワンポイントになっていいです。じつは、同じ柄のリュックも購入しました。靴とリュックはさすがに同時にはダメですね（笑）。
イクラも鳥柄の靴には興味があったのか、近づいていました。もしかして、新しいお家だなんて思っていませんよね？！
そして、職場の同僚からも素敵なプレゼントをいただきました。インコモチーフの入れ物です。鳥に囲まれて、そしてイクラと一緒で幸せな毎日です。

Ikura is a healthy eater. / イクラ、好き嫌いはありません。

In Japan it was a three-day weekend and I was able to spend enough time with Ikura. Besides the weather was so lovely, so I let him enjoy the sunshine outside too.
Well, Ikura is a healthy eater and it's good to let a budgie to try various types of foods when he/she is still young.
So far Ikura eats most of the foods I give him, but he doesn't like rose hip. He eats herbs though.
I always want to offer him opportunities to try many kinds of foods, so that he will pick up something he needs too.

３連休はお天気にも恵まれ、まさに行楽日和でしたね。私はイクラと過ごす時間も十分に確保できた上、イクラを日光浴させることもでき、充実した連休になりました。
ところで、イクラはありがたいことに、食べ物の好き嫌いがありません。
小さい頃からいろんな食べ物に挑戦させることは、とても良いことだと思います。
イクラは私があげるものはだいたい食べてくれますが、ローズヒップの実は苦手なようです。とりあえず、ハーブはよくつまんでいますが。
これからも、いろんな食べ物にチャレンジする機会を与えてあげたいと思います。そうすれば、自分に足りないもの、必要なものを自覚して、しっかり食べてくれそうな気がします。

Mt. Ikura / イクラ山

Do you know Mt. Fuji? In Japan we often consider Mt. Fuji as kind of a lucky charm. Then how about Mt. Ikura?
Don't you think it's also quite beautiful?!
Well, it was my birthday today and I'm so happy to have Ikura. Of course, Namihei is my lucky yellow budgie forever and here is my lucky blue budgie.
This morning Ikura said "Ikura-chan kawaii" (it means "Ikura-chan, cute").
He is picking up many words from me day by day!

 富士山といえば、縁起物ですよね。では、イクラ山はどうでしょうか？
イクラ山も、富士山に負けず劣らず、美しい山…ですよね？！
今日は飼い主の誕生日でした。イクラが一緒にいてくれて、とても幸せです。もちろん、永遠の幸せの黄色い鳥は波平。そしてイクラが幸せの青い鳥ですね。
今朝、イクラがまた新しい言葉を披露してくれました。「イクラちゃん…かわいいね。」ようやく法則がわかってきたのですが、熱心に教えている言葉に限って覚えず、普段よく耳にする言葉をどんどん覚えていくのですね。

Chatty budgie, Ikura / おしゃべりインコ、イクラ

These days I hurry to go home from work so that I can spend more time with Ikura. Well, he is so sweet and loves playing with me.
He usually likes jumping from my hand to the other one.
When he gets tired he goes back to his cage and takes a rest for a while.
Oh, Ikura keeps saying "Ikura-chan" and "Ikura". While I have supper, he keeps saying them in his cage.
Hmm... he says something else, but I cannot get what he is saying yet. So I must say it's still Ikura language... One day he may start singing a song! We shall see.

 最近、仕事が終わると急いで家に帰るようにしています。これもイクラと少しでも長く一緒にいられるようにするため。イクラ、愛嬌があって、一緒に遊ぶとよろこんでくれます。
イクラが好きな遊びは、私の手から手へ飛びながら移動するといったゲーム感覚のもの。
遊んで疲れてしまったら、ちゃんと自分でケージに戻って休んでいます。
それから、言ってますよ、「イクラちゃん」と「イクラ」。リビングで夕飯を食べていると、隣でケージの中でイクラがひたすら自分の名前を連呼します。
ほかにも何かおしゃべりしているのですが、まだちゃんと聞きとることができません。きっとまだ、イクラ語なんですね。いつか、歌を歌い出す日も来るかもしれませんね。とりあえず、期待して見守ります！

Ikura is a boy! / イクラは男の子。

We had a rainy Sunday here in Tokyo and Ikura got soaked with bathing in my room.
Well, finally it's time to announce that Ikura is a boy! I know many people are wondering why I kept calling Ikura "she", but I wasn't sure yet because of the cere colour. It turned pink and white for a while and now it's getting purple and blue. So it's safe to say Ikura is a male budgie now.
There are many differences between Namihei (girl) and Ikura. Namihei loved sneaking into a bookshelf, so I had to protect it against her. As for Ikura, he isn't interested in the place at all!
Oh, and Ikura keeps saying "Ikura-chan" now, which is so lovely. Will he pick up more phrases from me and my mum in the future? Well, we have to be careful.

日曜日は台風接近に伴い、あいにくの荒れ模様だった東京。イクラは私の部屋で水浴びをし、びしょぬれになっていました。
ところで、お知らせがあります。イクラ、男の子です！きっとブログを見てくださっている方の多くは、男の子じゃないかと思っていたと思いますが、ろうまくがピンクと白になっていた時期もあり、私もよくわかりませんでした。今は立派？！な、青みがかったろうまくになっていますよ。
そんなわけで、イクラ少年をよろしくお願いします。
女子だった波平とイクラ。たくさん違いがあります。たとえば、なみちゃんは本棚侵入が大好きだったので、本棚を守るべく対策が必要だったのですが、イクラはまったく関心がない模様。
そして、土曜日から「イクラちゃん」とおしゃべりを連発しています。これからどんどん、私や母の会話を聞いて言葉を覚えていくのでしょうか。そうなると、言動には気をつけないといけませんね。

Delicha Seed with Ikura / デリチャとイクラ

Have you heard of "Delicha Seed"? It's a grass seed from Uganda and it's a good source of carbohydrates, fibre, and iron.
The problem is it looks a bit unpleasant (for me), because I feel it's like an insect.
Fortunately Ikura doesn't care how it looks and she loves eating it a lot. Good!
I give it to her as a treat and she does enjoy it.
I spent all afternoon with her at home today. I want to spend more time on weekdays, but I have to go to work too. So I want to spend time with her over the weekend as much as possible. Well, there is another typhoon heading Tokyo, so I'll stay at home tomorrow too. It means I can be with Ikura all day!

デリチャという野草をご存知でしょうか？ウガンダに生息するもので、炭水化物、食物繊維、そして鉄分を豊富に含んでいます。
問題は、グロテスクな見た目。少なくとも私には、虫のように見えてしまいます。
ただ、幸いイクラはそんな見た目は気にしないようで、おいしそうにパクパク食べてくれます。イクラには主食としてではなく、放鳥時のおやつとしてあげていますよ。
今日は午後はずっとイクラと家で過ごしました。本当は平日ももっとイクラと一緒にいたいのですが、仕事もしなくてはいけません…。だから、週末はなるべく一緒にいられるように調整しています。今週末は、また台風が接近しているため、明日はずっと家にいるつもりなので、イクラと一緒にいられますね。

Monthly Anniversary of Namihei's death / 波平の月命日

Namihei passed away on the 27th of August this year, so today is monthly anniversary of her death.
It's passed two months since I said good bye to her. Well, I still miss her. I miss her lovely face, chubby body, and her smell. She was a charming budgie!
As you know, I welcomed another budgie, Ikura. She is very different from Namihei. First of all, she is very thin and not fluffy. Besides she is so tiny.
These days I'm learning her own charm. She often comes to me when I call her. And she enjoys playing with me a lot.
Well, I'm not able to forget about Namihei and I don't think it's necessary. But I also want to love Ikura too. I want her to be happy and she has a right to have a good life.

波平が亡くなったのが今年の8月27日。今日は２回目の月命日です。
さよならを言って２か月が経ちましたが、今でもやはり寂しいです。波平の匂い、愛くるしい顔、むっちりボディ、そのすべてが恋しいです。なみちゃんは、本当にかわいらしいインコでした。
そして間もなくしてお迎えしたのがイクラです。ご存知の通り、イクラは波平とは対照的で、細マッチョの薄毛。そして体もずいぶん小さいです（※波平は一応ジャンボセキセイインコとしてショップにいました）。
でも、ここ最近、イクラにはイクラの魅力があるんだなぁと気づき始めたところです。呼べばたいてい飛んできてくれるし、一緒に遊ぶのが大好きなイクラ。
なみちゃんのことは忘れられないし、忘れる必要もありません。でも、イクラのことも精一杯愛してあげたいです。そして、イクラにも幸せになってほしい。だって、幸せになる権利があるんですから。
