Before welcoming 2017 / 2017年、酉年を迎える前に。

Time flies, Namihei flies, and I can't fly.
Well, I can't believe that it's already New Year's Eve. I was still cleaning up my room, yet haven't finished it yet.
Today it was a special day for me and Namihei. Namihei debuts! What am I talking about? I had been waiting for this day since I got an offer from a publisher this September. Namihei is in a book! It's only two pages, but still you can see 12 photos of her. You'll find the secret of charm of Namihei.

あっという間に大晦日です。無事に大掃除は済んでいますか？私は今日も部屋の片づけに専念してみましたが、終わりませんでした。
今日は、波平と私にとって特別な日なんです。波平、デビューですよ（笑）。今年9月にお話をいただいていたのですが、本日ようやく発売されました。マガジンハウスさんより、「#とりまみれ」というムック本に、波平が２ページにわたり紹介されています。単なる食いしん坊だと思っていたのですが、「遊びのスペシャリスト」と紹介されています！

Another lazy day / だらだらの１日

It's really fantastic that I can spend lots of time with Namihei. Well, it must be nice if I can work at home so that I can stay with her a lot.
As for Namihei, she doesn't care about my presence and she does her daily things. When I wanted to play with her, she was napping.
Actually I had to clean up my room, but I was too lazy to do that. I did a bit though. Tomorrow, I hope I can be more useful and do all chores!

 波平と一緒にいられる時間がたくさんあるのは、本当にうれしいことです。
在宅勤務だったら、どんなにいいだろう、なんて考えてしまいますね。
でも、波平は私の存在なんてお構いなしで、いつもと変わらぬ１日を過ごしてます。私が一緒に遊んでほしいと思った時は、お昼寝中でした！
私も、大掃除をしなければいけなかったのですが、どうも気が進まなくて。ま、ちょっとは掃除したんですけどね。明日こそ、もうちょっと気合いを入れて、家事をこなしたいと思います！

Earthquake / 地震

The earthquake occurred last night here in Tokyo and it made Namihei get panics. She was already sleeping in her cage at that time and suddenly she started making noise. I kept telling her she would be okay while taking off blankets form her cage.
She looked so frightened, so I let her get out of her cage. Then I think she felt safe and started dozing off in my room.
I wanted her to sleep there overnight, but it wouldn't be safe once I went to bed. I finally took her to her cage and made sure she would be fine there.
Birds are so sensitive and I think they can feel something we, humans, cannot feel.

昨晩、東京で地震があり、波平もパニックを起こしました。すでになみちゃんはおやすみした後だったのですが、ケージ内でものすごい音をたてて暴れ始めたんです。
慌ててケージのおやすみカバーを外しながら、「大丈夫だと」と声をかけたのですが、本当に怖かったんでしょうね。なみちゃん、とっても怯えた表情をしてました。ケージから出たがったので、外に出してあげると、安心したのかすぐにうとうとし始めたなみちゃん。本当は一晩そこで眠らせてあげたかったのですが、私が寝てしまえば、逆に安全な環境とは言えません。かわいそうでしたが、ケージに戻し、落ち着いている様子を確認してからまた寝かせました。
鳥はとっても敏感で、私たち人間にはわからないものも察知する能力があるんだと思います。

Fluffy Namihei / ふわもこ波平。

It was the last work day of the year today and I'll have a week holiday. I haven't got any particular plans during the holiday, so I can spend lots of time with Namihei.
As for Namihei, she is doing well, but she tends to be fluffy at evening. Is this the sign that she is cold? Or something else? She is fluffy, but very active.
By the way, her poo is getting so tiny these days, so I think her mating season will finish soon. And it means the moulting season will come along.

今日は仕事納めでした。これから１週間、年末年始のお休みです。特に出かける予定もないので、年末年始は波平と一緒にいられそうですよ。
なみちゃんはといえば、元気にしていますが、夜はもこもこしがち。これって、寒がているサインなんでしょうか、それとも何か別の意味があるのでしょうか？もこもこしてはいるものの、とっても元気に動き回っています。
ところで、なみちゃんのフンがだいぶ小ぶりになってきました。ということは、発情期もそろそろ終わりに近づいた証拠です。でも、それって換羽がもうすぐ始まるということも意味してますよね。気をつけなければ！

In a dark room / クリぼっち。

Have you ever heard of the word, "Kuribocchi"? In Japan we call singles "Kuribocchi" who spend Christmas Day alone.
On Christmas Eve I left home without turning on the light in the living room. Well, my mum found Namihei alone in the dark room when she came back home. I'm so sorry, Namihei!
Today I went to the clinic to get medicine for Namihei. Yes, I still need to give it to her, but she is doing well. You can see what I mean in these photos! Namihei suddenly started rolling... she is very funny.

クリスマスをひとりで過ごす、「クリぼっち」。私はもちろん、夜は波平と一緒に過ごしましたよ。
クリスマスイブの日、出かける際にリビングの電気をつけるのを忘れてしまいました。母が帰宅して、暗闇にいるなみちゃんを発見したそうです。なみちゃん、ごめんね。
今日はなみちゃんの薬をもらいに病院へ行ってきました。そうなんです、まだ投薬治療中です。でも、写真のとおり、元気にしているんですよ。 波平、急に転がってました（笑）。なみちゃんは、本当におもしろいインコです！

Unknown / 知らない人。

How was your Christmas?
Namihei has got many Christmas gifts from me, but it seems that she is still waiting for Father Christmas. How greedy she is! ha ha
Well, Namihei recognises me and my mum and doesn't like to have someone she doesn't know. When a guy from a gas company visited our house, she looked so tensed. Although she was in my room and didn't see him, she was so nervous with hearing his voice.
She was so relaxed until she got this unwelcoming guest. Hmm... she is very cautious and I'm sure she won't follow anyone she doesn't know!

 クリスマスはいかがお過ごしですか？
波平は、私からたくさんプレゼントをもらったはずなのに、まだサンタが来るのを待っているようです。ずうずうしいですね、なみちゃん！
なみちゃん、私と母のことはちゃんと認識していますが、どうやら知らない人がいるのはイヤなようです。家にガス会社の人がさっき来たのですが、なみちゃん、すごく張りつめた感じになってました。私の部屋にいたので、実際目にしたわけではないのに、声が聞こえただけで、びくっとしてたわけです。それまではリラックスモードだったんですけどね。なかなか用心深いです。知らない人には絶対ついていくことはないですね！

Special treatment / 特別ごほうび。

Have you got Christmas gifts for your family and friends? Then what about for yourself?
Well, Father Christmas didn't visit our house, but I myself gave a Christmas gift to Namihei.
Oh, by the way, do you know there is Santa school in London?! It seems Father Christmas also needs education!
What did I give Namihei? Special millet balls, a foraging toy, and a hammock.
Tonight I only gave her one millet ball, and she looked very happy. Hmm... she was a bit afraid of the hammock, so it may take time for her to play with it. For the foraging toy, it seems that she knows how it works already.

ご家族や友人にクリスマスプレゼントは用意しましたか？自分用のプレゼントも準備していますか？
我が家にサンタは来ませんが、私が波平にクリスマスプレゼントを用意しましたよ。
そういえば、ロンドンにはサンタの学校があるそうですよ。サンタもちゃんと教育を受けるんですね（笑）。
さて、なみちゃんへのプレゼントの中身の発表です。粟穂ボール、フォージングトイ、そしてハンモックです。
今日は粟穂ボール１つだけ、ごほうびにあげました。とってもうれしそうでしたよ！ハンモックは、まだちょっと怖いみたいです。これで遊んでくれるには時間がかかりそうですね。フォージングトイはといえば、もう仕組みがわかっているようですよ。

Christmas is coming! / もうすぐクリスマス。

It was a national holiday today and I was able to spent all day with Namihei. Speaking of Namihei, she is doing well, though she has to take medicine. I know she is reluctant to take it and doesn't want me to touch her, but it can't be helped.
I'm sure she enjoyed her day. She even had a bath!
Christmas is coming soon and I can't wait to give Christmas gifts to her. For myself, I've already done lots of shopping including a new laptop! From now on I need to save money...

今日は祝日だったので、波平と１日中ずっと一緒にいられました。
波平はといえば、ただいま投薬中ですが、元気にしていますよ。薬を飲むのも気が進まないし、とにかく私に触られるのも嫌だと思うのですが、もうしばらくの辛抱です！
なみちゃん、それでも今日は楽しい１日だったはず。なんとめったにしない水浴びまでしてましたからね。
もうすぐクリスマス。なみちゃんにプレゼントをあげるのが楽しみでしかたありません。自分へのプレゼントはというと、じつはここ最近かなり買い物してしまって…。ノートパソコンまで買ってしまいました。そんなわけで、これからは節約の日々ですよ！

Let's hang around togerger. / 一緒に過ごそう。

These days Namihei tends to look tired at evening, but tonight she was so energetic. After I had supper, I let her out of her cage in my room, and then she kept flying around. When I left for the living room, she even followed me!
Well, it was a warm day and that must be one of the reasons why she was so energetic.
It's always good to see her enjoy playing a lot. It's a national holiday tomorrow here, so I'll spend all day with my lovely budgie, Namihei. Then I'll give her a Christmas gift!

最近、夜になるとお疲れの様子だった波平ですが、今夜は元気いっぱいでした。夕食後、いつものようになみちゃんを部屋で放鳥したのですが、飛び回っていましたよ。私がリビングへ行ったときなんて、飛んで追いかけてきましたからね。
東京は、今日はとっても暖かかったので、こうした要因も、なみちゃんが元気でいられた理由の１つかもしれませんね。
なみちゃんが楽しそうに遊んでる姿を見ると、本当に安心します。明日は祝日なので、朝からずっとなみちゃんと一緒に過ごす予定です。そして、クリスマスですね。ちゃんとプレゼントも用意してありますよ！

Moulting again? / 換羽が始まる。

When moulting comes, I always have to keep an eye on Namihei, because it's so easy to get sick during moulting.
I feel that it's coming, as she often grooms herself a lot. To be honest, I don't want her to have it now. If possible, can we skip it this time?!
You know, she is under treatment now, so I want her to concentrate on it.
By the way I'm waiting for delivery from Germany. What have I bought? Of course, Namihei's stuff! I've ordered some organic seeds and herbs for her. I hope she will like all of them.

換羽がくると、波平のことを注意深く見守らなければいけません。換羽中は、病気になりやすいんですよ。
その換羽が、どうもやってきそうな気がするんです。このところ、なみちゃんはしょっちゅう、羽繕いしてますからね。正直なところ、今はこないでほしいです。今回は、スキップでお願いします、なんてキャンセルができたらいいのですが！
今、なみちゃんは肝臓のお薬を服用しています。だから、こちらの治療に専念してほしいんですよね。
ところで、今、ドイツからの荷物の発送を待っているところです。何かと言えば、もちろんなみちゃんのモノ。無農薬のシードやらハーブやらをオーダーしたわけです。なみちゃん、全部気に入って食べてくれるといいのですが。

Morning budgie, Namihei / 朝型インコ、波平。

Namihei looks a bit tired and tends to fluff herself up at evening. At least, she eats a lot though.
In the morning she looks fine and flies around my room, so I think it's better to let her play a lot in the morning. Then at evening I should let her rest early until we confirm her condition is absolutely fine.
I've started giving her various kinds of seeds, but I'm not sure if she eats all of them. As for pellets, she throws them out when she is in her cage. When she comes out, of course, she has no choice and eats them though. Picky Namihei, you must eat everything I give you!

夜はどうもお疲れのように見える波平、羽を膨らませていることが多いです。でも、食欲だけは衰えませんが。
朝は元気いっぱいで、部屋の中を飛び回っています。ということは、朝の時間にいっぱい遊んでもらったほうが良いわけですね。なみちゃんの健康状態が良好とお墨付きをもらうまでは、夜はなるべくはやくおやすみしてもらったほうが良さそうです。
いろんな種類のシードをあげ始めたのですが、ちゃんと全部食べてくれているのでしょうか。ペレットに関しては、ケージにいる時は投げ捨ててしまっているようですけど。放鳥時はもちろん、選択肢がほかにないので、しぶしぶペレットを食べています。わがままなみちゃん、出されたものは全部食べないといけませんよ！

It's good to have an enormous appetite! / 食欲旺盛は良いこと。

When Namihei has got a problem with her health, I always appreciate her enormous appetite. Budgies are so tiny, so if they can't eat enough, it means they're in danger.
I also appreciate her cooperation when I give her medicine. When I show my mouth open to her, she also opens her beak! That's really amazing, right?
I let her go to bed early tonight, as I don't want her to consume too much energy. Well, she was looking for something to eat while she was out of her cage though. I gave her some pellets at first, but it wasn't enough for her. It was funny to see her searching around my room, but no worries, I put her supper in her cage!

何か健康面で問題が出たとき、いつもありがたいと思うのが、波平のものすごい食欲です。インコは小さい生き物なので、食べられなくなると、すぐに命の危険にさらされてしまいますからね。
そして、お薬をあげる時も、なみちゃんの協力にとても感謝しています。「なみちゃん、あーん」と言いながら私が口を開けると、なみちゃんも、ちゃんと口を開けてくれるんですよ！すごいと思いませんか？
あんまり体力を消耗してほしくなかったので、今日は早めにおやすみさせました。放鳥中、なみちゃんはずっと食べ物探しをしてました。ちゃんと最初にペレットを少しあげたのですが、それじゃ足りなかったんですね。でも、ご心配なく。ちゃんと夕飯はケージの中に準備しましたからね！

We must be strong! / 一緒に頑張ろう。

We went to the clinic today and I didn't expect to have such a result. Namihei has got a problem in her liver and heart. For a while, Namihei has to take medication.
Namihei had a X-ray and the vet explained the situation to me very well. Yes, she was very nice!
From now on I'll try to give Namihei balanced diet and it must help her fight against her problems.
I was shocked the result, but also felt good that I had been able to take her to the vet before the situation was worse.

 本日、診察に行ってきたのですが、予想していなかった展開に。波平、肝臓と心臓に問題があるようです。これからしばらく、肝臓の働きをよくするお薬を服用しなければなりません。
レントゲンを撮り、画像を使って先生が詳しく説明してくれました。とてもよい先生でしたよ！
これからは、もっとバランスのよい食事を提供できるよう考えていきたいです。なみちゃんが健康を取り戻すための源ですもんね。
正直なところ、この結果にはショックを受けましたが、手遅れになる前に診察を受けられたことには、ほっとしています。

Namihei shall visit the vet. / 波平、病院へ行く。

First of all, Namihei is doing well, so please don't worry about her.
Well, I just want to make sure if her beak is okay, because it's not smooth and shiny. Perhaps, it means she is getting old, but I always want to make sure if everything is okay with her.
So I booked the clinic today and we're going there for checkup this Saturday.
This is the clinic we visited last October for the first time. At that time, we got the director of the clinic. Namihei didn't like it much, because it was a male vet. This time, no worries. I have appointed a female one, and guess what, she is a specialist for birds. So I'm sure Namihei will relax this time!

タイトルで驚かれた方、波平は元気にしていますので、心配しないでくださいね。
ただ、なみちゃんのクチバシがちょっとガサガサで艶がないのが気になってしまって。もちろん、加齢のせいなのかもしれませんが、念には念をということで、病院の診察予約をしました。明後日土曜日に一緒に行ってきます。ここは、10月に初めて訪れた病院の方です。前回は初回ということもあり、院長先生が対応してくれたのですが、なみちゃんは嫌だったようです。というのも、男性だったから。でも、今回は大丈夫ですよ。ちゃんと女性の獣医さんを予約しましたからね。しかも、鳥専門の先生ですよ。これできっとなみちゃんは、リラックスして診察を受けられるはずです！

Namihei stares at me! / 波平が見つめている。

It's been over 2 years since Namihei and I lived together. These days I feel that Namihei has changed her attitude toward me. Well, she has a friendly manner and likes to stick to me.
When she is in her cage, she often tries to come to me and keeps staring at me.
That face, I must admit, looks very cute!
I'm glad to feel that she likes me, but there is kind of a problem. When I want to take photos of her, she tends to come to me. She wants to stay on my shoulder, or play with me on my camera.
I know she wants to stick to me, but please remember, you're the true model!

波平と一緒に暮らし始めて２年が過ぎましたが、最近、なみちゃんの私に対する態度が変わってきたなと実感しています。
なみちゃん、フレンドリーになったんですよね。そして、やたらと私にまとわりついてきます。
ケージにいるときは、私の方へ来ようとすることがよくあるし、見つめてくるんですよ。その顔が、何とも言えないくらいかわいいんです！
なみちゃんに好かれていると実感できるのはうれしいのですが、問題のような面もあります。写真を撮ろうとするときに、すぐに私のところに来てしまうわけです。肩にのったり、カメラの上にきて、私と遊びたがるんですよ。
そばにいたいのはわかります。でも、なみちゃん、インコモデルとして頑張ってもらわなければいけませんよ！

Namihei's diet / 波平の食事

It's always difficult to answer what is the best diet for Namihei. I give her seeds and pellets in the proportion of three to one. There are some brands available for pellets and it's also difficult to choose the best one for her.
Well, I just ordered a different brand's pellets today. It's because I saw her struggling with swallowing the pellets I gave now. Perhaps it's too big for her? It happens when she eats them when she is out of her cage. You know, it might be just she was in a rush and tried to eat them quickly. Just in case, I milled them a bit for her supper tonight. Hmm... do I have to mill them every day?!

波平に最適な食事は何なのか、その答えを見つけるのは簡単ではありません。現在、シードとペレットを３対１の割合であげていますが、ペレットだっていろんなメーカーのものがあって、どれがなみちゃんにとって一番良いのかもわかりません。
今日、別のメーカーのペレットを注文しました。というのも、最近よくなみちゃんがペレットを飲み込むのに苦労している素振りをよく見るんです。もしかしたら、大慌てで食べるからそうなるのかもしれません。でも、やっぱり粒が大きすぎるのかも…。今日のところは、夕飯用にはすり鉢でちょっと砕いたものをあげました。でも、これを毎日やるとなると、ちょっと大変ですね。

You have got something on your beak. / くちばしに何かついてるよ。

The weekend was good, as I was able to spend lots of time with Namihei. I'm sure she also enjoyed the weekend.
Well, there is one problem though. How to stop her enormous appetite. Recently I always think of it, because she has gained weight.
When she finds seeds or pellets, she looks like obsessed with them and starts eating them in a rush. That's why she has got something on her beak!
If she eats veggies, will it help? I haven't tried "Stellaria media" yet, but she might have it. When I have got its seeds, I want to grow them for her.

週末は波平と一緒にたくさん遊べてとても有意義に過ごせました。なみちゃんだって、楽しい週末だったはず。
ただ、問題が１つ浮上しています。それは、どうやったらなみちゃんの食欲を止められるのか、ということです。最近、こればっかり考えてるんですよね。だって、もう体重オーバーしちゃってますから…。
シードやペレットを見つけると、とりつかれたように大慌てで食べ始めるなみちゃん。だから、クチバシにお弁当つけちゃってることもあるんですよね（笑）。
野菜が食べられれば、少しはダイエットになるのでしょうか。野菜嫌いのなみちゃんに、まだ「ハコベ」は試していません。種が手に入ったら、なみちゃんのために栽培してみたいです。
